Cheap But Misleading.

JSinsurance Iphone policy looks great form a distance, covering 'theft, loss, accidental damage' but when you read the small print you will find that you're not actually covered for most things!

I took out a year's policy (around £80) with JS insurance looking for cheap cover for my iphone 4 that would bring me peace of mind. A year was up with no problems so I covered my iphone for another year (£60). A couple of month's into the year my phone was stolen along with my purse in a nightclub. My bag was on a table next to me and before I knew it had gone.

Now the insurance company states that my iphone was covered for theft, which is defined as 'someone taking you property without your permission' of which this was the case.

I filed a claim which came back as unsuccessful, the reason being that unless 'force or threat of violence' is used then apparently you are not covered. So if you was on a train with your iphone in your pocket and you was pick pocketed this will NOT be covered. After analysing the small print it seems that your are not covered for pretty much everything to do with theft unless you are mugged. In fact the chances of what they cover happening to you is so slim that there really is no point in buying the insurance!

What annoyed me even more was that with my £140 paid for the 2 years cover and with a £75 excess I would have already paid £215 towards the £320 iphone.

The icing on the cake - I wanted to cancel my iphone cover as I no longer had an iphone (which I think is reasonable) and having only used 3 months of the year's cover, only to be told that as i had made a claim (even though it was UNSUCCESSFUL) this was not possible.

Now i have bought a second hand iphone 4s for £200 and won't bother insuring it.

Read the very small print before buying and make sure they cover what you are looking for.

Lesson learnt!
