Car Rental
Going to UK, heard about money maxim and decided to book car hire through them, found them very helpful and got a really good deal. Reason I gave one star is because they are of no use to you if you get to pick up your car out of office hours and you encounter a problem like we did. There is no one to help you and you are left at the mercy of the car hire company and we ended up paying too much for our 6 day car hire. It was gone 10pm, we needed to get to our hotel and had no alternative but to hand over the money nearly £300 as opposed to quote of £75 from money maxim plus we had also taken out stand alone car insurance. I will never hire a car in UK again, they are not nice people to deal with, they don't care but to get money from you. I emailed money maxim hoping they could help me as Easirent people car was hired from is an in house company they recommend but they said sorry, end of story.
A lesson learned.

As explained when you called the booking you made was on the basis that you had a credit card that could be used to preauthorise the required deposit with Easirent.
We can offer the alternative of being able to use a debit card for UK car hire bookings through our website, (although these do tend to be slightly more expensive), but at the time you booked you felt you would be able to use your credit card so did not go down that route.
Unfortunately when you arrived at the desk the credit card could not be used as the PIN number had been forgotten, so therefore the pre-authorisation could not be taken. As this means the car hire company are exposed if the car sustains damage - and without a pre-authorisation their only way around this is to offer you their inhouse excess insurance which is what they did, enabling you to hire the car for your break.
Whilst car hire firms do have a reputation for hard selling their insurance at the desk - and we will help users if that does occur - this was not the case here as the underlying issue was that you did not have a valid credit card to use.
We are really sorry that you found yourself in this situation on this occasion and am really sorry you have been put off car hire in the future, but we would be more than delighted to help again if you do change your mind.
Hire Car / Rental Car Insurance
Watched Martin Lewis on telly recommend MoneyMaxim for car rental insurance, had never heard of either Moneymaxim or independent car rental insurance. Just bought insurance for a week in July, the process was easy and painless on the internet. Will post again after the rental period.

Customer Service Queen
What an excellent price comparison site this is.
Today I needed information regarding 10 day car hire with the best value insurance. Not only did this site's customer service 'chat' option allow me to speak to surely one of the most patient and obliging customer service advisors I have ever met ... but this same advisor even volunteered to telephone me back and discuss the options as we reviewed the live site section by section for a few minutes. Amazing and SO HELPFUL. Today Moneymaxim saved me £197.29 on car hire and my husband and I were unexpectedly also given an 'upgrade' on the car.
Needless to say - I will be back to compare prices in future.
Great Customer Care
I used Money Maxim recently to book car insurance for a trip to California. They were very helpful initially before i booked the insurance when helping to explain exactly what cover was needed. After booking through their site i phoned back later in the evening at 7pm with a concern i had following a misunderstanding with the car hire company. Money Maxim helped reassure me on the phone and then off their own accord went and looked further into my query and phoned back that evening with the exact information i needed to put my mind at ease. Great customer service and so helpful!
They're A Pleasure To Deal With!
I hardly ever leave reviews, but this one is long overdue. I can only echo the previous brilliant reviews - Moneymaxim are a breath of fresh air in these times of declining personal service. I've used them several times over several years for car hire, car hire excess insurance and car insurance and they've never been less than great. Comparing insurance quotes online can be a minefield and often key differences aren't clear, similarly pre Moneymaxim we had various stressful experiences with car hire bookings abroad - Moneymaxim are incredibly knowledgable, give excellent advice and are amazingly helpful about any queries. They've also helped us save a lot of money. I usually use the site to shortlist companies, then pick up the phone for more detailed advice (like how far the hire cars are from the airport or what the customer service record is like for an insurance company). Can't recommend them enough. So thanks Moneymaxim, and thank you to Mark in particular!

Brilliant Advice, Service And Solution
I was looking for a comprehensive international insurance policy for car rentals (to avoid the exorbitant rates charged by rental companies) and found everything I needed on the moneymaxim site... lots of advice, had a quick response to a question that I had, received clear recommendations about the options, and payment for my eventualcchoice went through easily (without hidden extra charges suddenly cropping up over the original quote).

Car Hire Excess Insurance
Oh my goodness Everyone should use Moneymaxim I would trust them with my life. EXCELLENT 100 out of 100
I knew I needed extra car hire insurance but I just couldn’t get my head round just what it was I needed after hiring a car for USA. The staff at Moneymaxim went to no end of trouble to clarify the details of a car hire insurance policy that would provide a much cheaper alternative to the car rental companies excess. ‘This is process is much more complicated than you might think and easy to buy an unsuitable policy’.
I think I must have phoned Moneymaxim half a dozen times and they were always so wonderful, friendly and extremely helpful, they all took so much time to explain and help me understand the pros and cons involved in excess car hire.
After choosing the company I wanted to go with they guided me through each stage, step by step. I was so relieved when I got my documents. Not only has this saved me a considerable amount of money but Moneymaxim seem to have more knowledge of the insurer's policies than some of the insurer's call centre staff themselves.
I will most certainly be using the company's services again not just for my car excess insurance but other facilities that the company offer. Well done Moneymaxim. sorry for the essay but Nothing is too much trouble for them. Top marks

Very Pleased - Especially By The Amount Of Money Saved!
Couldn't help but feel smug while standing at the car rental desk in Madrid airport knowing that I was saving over £1200 on the rental car I was about to collect. Plus the guy next to me, who had ordered a car through British Airways, was about to be hit with a 20 euro a day excess insurance bill. Ouch!
I came across Moneymaxim through Moneysavingexpert who recommended it for car rental and for avoiding paying the money making 'scams' you are almost forced to pay when hiring a car abroad.
The Moneymaxim site was clear and easy to navigate. Using their Car Hire Hub the car rental deal I managed to secure was with a reputable company and was chosen after comparing all the different options offered to me. I especially liked the option to use only companies with fair fuel policies.
Once the car rental was sorted and I had discovered I had saved over £1200 when compared to the car rental company's own website I used Moneymaxim to purchase my excess insurance - again as recommended by Moneysavingexpert. Once again, the website was clear and offered a good selection of policies at discounted prices when compared to the insurance company's own site.
All in all - a great site to save you money. I would recommend them to anyone thinking of renting a car.

You are totally right in what you say - we look to save our users money on both the car hire and the car hire excess insurance (although each can also be purchased independently of each other), and those savings can be substantial.

Q&A
I have just hired a car for two days in Dundee 14 & 15 Jan (to attend a funeral in Dundee). Car hire company (Arnold Clark) wanted to charged an addition £30 to cover access. Instead, I have opted for them holding a deposit on my credit card. Is there a '2-day' insurance policy with which I can protect the 'deposit' against any 'scratches' and such like?

You can get a quote through our site. The policies sold here will still mean you leave the deposit but if the worse happens you can claim back the amount you have been charged.
