Cautionary Tale For All Travel Pre-paid Money Cards
Went to Debenhams and purchased a Pre-paid travel card four days before we flew to Cyprus. No hassle getting the card, paid with cash, went home registered card on-line and it became "activated". Got a pin number with the card. First day of holiday went to use it and it did not register in the card machine. tried three other establishments and the same thing. Rang customer help line and all they could suggest was we request the vendors to enter the card number manually and then we could sign for the transaction. We attempted this but was refused as people looked at us suspiciously, as the card was a pin and chip card. Anyway it did not work. Got back home and there was a telephone message from Debenhams, on the fourth day of our two week holiday, informing us there was a bad batch of card chips and could we return for a new card. After hols went back for a refund. Two very nice and profusely apologetic ladies, no trouble getting cash back. Also gave us a ten pound gift voucher and two coffee vouchers for their restaurant. This covered my transaction fees on my credit and debit cards that I had to use. But of course there is the cost of an international phone call, forgot that. The lesson is: after you have registered your card on-line, before you fly off, go to a UK ATM and try the card to confirm it is working. Just enter the card in the machine and if it's working it will ask for the pin number, You don't have to draw any money, in fact do not draw any money as the card is for Euros only and they will charge you a transaction fee. But at least you will know it is working.

What A Hassle! Not Fully Thought Through!
Went to debenhams store to fetch travel money card. Thought the process seemed slick card loaded there and then came away quite happy - although staff did seem rather 'vague' about how it worked.
I'm now in spain can't get into the site to check my balance etc says username is wrong? Well it might be me and I could have it wrong so pressed forgot username. Which in most organisations you get a reminded and security questions sent to your email. No not this had to ring customer services for them to give over the phone?! Rang unfortunate for me on a bank hol so was well annoyed after going through phone options to finally be out through wait 7 mins and then line go dead......,this is all from abroad on a mobile?!? Rang store for help they said can't help once left store not their domain. Assistant said - again while ringing from spain. 'They are more trouble than they're worth these cards?!?!?'
Finally got thru to c/serv few days later for an advisor to say its a senior person who needs to ring me back. Within the day?? No call. Just received an 0845 call the following day, it rang twice and didn't get chance to answer it? So stranded no way of topping card up n no one from uk willing to help. FAIRFX card last year was a lot better!

Avoid Debenhams Currency Card
Appalling. After 10 mins form filling and admin they decided photo ID plus proof of address not enough and they need 2 photo ID i.e. passport plus driving licence. Ludicrous, and not as per website. Not a big transaction this was modest sum but well above their minimum (US$500).
If you ever get a prepaid currency card from them note that it can only be topped up in-store, which is also pretty much unheard of in the prepaid currency card industry. Don't waste time with them if you are in a hurry and cannot wait for Caxton or similar cards to arrive. you might try Asda (who were brilliant)

No Longer Available!
I originally saw this card advertised several years ago instore at my local Debenhams. I use it mostly for online buying and it works fine.
However, right from the start, Debenhams staff seemed to know nothing about it and my impression was that Debenhams disowned the whole idea!luckily postoffices and paypoint outlets had no trouble putting money on for me. However, these transactions involve a 3% fee whereas at Debenhams stores it would be free!
Despite my new card arriving recently still under Debenhams name, I'm told that they no longer issue or deal this card.
