De Vere Venues New Place, Southampton, Hampshire

We actally ate here for a family birthday. No one in the bar when we arrived. First course was fine. Main courses of roast beef/pork were overdone and balanced on soggy vegetables that must have been keeping warm on a hotplate for a couple of hours. Dessert Pecan Tart arrived with cold creme anglais - not the hot vanilla custard advertised on the menu. One of our party asked for cream and a pot of HOT cream arrived at the table - astonishing. Coffee (luke warm) was just two pots plonked on the table for us to serve ourselves. Overall, very disappointing for the people who had booked and arranged this.Not anywhere near the standard or quality one would expect from DeVere.

I visited De Vere Venues New Place hotel with my boyfriend for a weekend away and we were very impressed with the hotel. Even from the outside of it, you can tell its going to be very professional and welcoming inside. When we arrived we were welcomed warmly by the reception staff who gave us all the necessary information for our stay. All staff throughout the hotel from the cleaners, to the waiters were all so polite and helpful during the whole of our stay. We ate in the hotel on the first night, and the only down side to this was that the menu was very limited to what to eat. The pool facilities were also very good and clean and I would definitely recommend this hotel. The hotel is also a 5 minute walk from the very impressive shopping centre in Southampton, so you don't need to pay for extra parking. Overall we were both very impressed with this hotel, and would definitely stay here again if we were in Southampton.

We visited the New Place for a friends wedding and were delighted by the beautiful setting. Most, if not all, of the rooms are situated in rows of challis 30 seconds walk away from the main building. The rooms are well equipped, comfortable and spacious. Breakfast buffet has plenty of choice for everyone. And the hotel has its own spa, which unfortunately we had no time to test drive.One downside of our visit was being woken up at 7.30 on Saturday morning by the noise of the linen trolleys being wheeled over the paved walkway outside our room for 20 minutes. Enough to wake us before our long day. We requested a different room and got a bit of a cold reception and overheard another customer mentioning the disruption, to which the staff denied all knowledge.However we were relocated to another room, away from the cleaning stores, and slept through on Sunday morning, to our delight. Overall, a very nice hotel and pleasant weekend, although I'd suggest that the hotel invest in some inflatable tyres for their linen trolleys!
