I spend alot of time in the countryside, I always go fishing with friends and camp in the woods. And I never really had a jacket that i like appart from the 'Barbour Mens Classic Beaufort Wax Jacket', seriously does the job, as its waterproof and it has a collar studded optional hood for rainy days, in uk's case is very often. And what I have noticed is that some people started wearing it in London. Come on now, it's a farmers jacket more like. but anyway I found it to be good for money. Well actually it would of been nice if they knocked off a few pounds. If you can get yourself one for cheap then great, otherwise if you can afford one then just buy one, trust me it will be worth it.
I appreciate that a lot of of people seem to love their Barbour Beaufort jacket, which is why I splashed £200+ on one, but frankly either I've been unlucky and got a duff garment, or the owners who rave about these overpriced tarpaulins with arms never wear them out in the rain. Mine leaks like a sieve, and has done ever since it was new & is useless as a waterproof. I took it back to Orvis who basically said tough luck and tried to sell me a can of reproofing wax, but a brand new raincoat should't need this treatment. Barbour customer services never even responded to my e-mail, so my choice of wet weather gear in future will revert to technical fabrics. The Barbour is stylish if you like that sort of thing, but it is just a fashion item and not fit for serious countrywear in my opinion.
