NewHair wigs

I bought my NewHair wig (simiweave) from Pak Cosmetics at a very fair 69.99 for a 14 inch wig in human hair.

The wig is very silky and easy to style it can take awhile to perfect the edges but once done this product looks very realistic my sister thought it was my own hair.

The only thing that makes me feel not confident with this wig is how loose it is the actual cap has too much space and I would usually say my head is quite big.

I would like Simi Weave to offer longer lengths and have more colours available as well as have an option to select a small cap if this was done they would have a truly amazing product that I wouldn't mind paying more for.

This is my experience: These NewHair wigs are a really fabulous idea. The concept is perfect. My personal opinion, borne out of the following personal experience is they could still benefit from further product development:

. My (Anglo-Caribbean) hair - following a very short cut - is now just about long enough to pull into a ponytail. I have a selection of wigs to get me through that 'in between' period. I have quite a low hairline, so a fringe is out and I have to be careful about wig hairlines being visible so some of my wigs are half-wigs and hair-pieces. Although silky and in good condition my virgin hair is not very thick or densely dispersed relative to most Afro hair, which created a few problems for me with my NewHair wig.

. I would never consider buying a wig over the Internet (even from the NewHair website) but due to the excitement & anticipation I did reluctantly agree to NewHair's company's policy of not allowing people to try wigs on and bought one anyway. In hindsight, this was a big mistake for me. It is really essential to 'try before you buy'. A girl needs to see if the particular style she is interested in buying suits her face; if the parting is in the best place for her face shape and hairline; if the density and type of hair are appropriate; if the colour and shading are a match for her own hair and finally if the size and quality of the wig is appropriate. I understand that the usual hygiene safeguard of 'stocking foots' cannot be worn due to the partings in Newhair wigs. So, in spite of the very pleasant & attentive NewHair representative, I feel the buy-before-you-may-try policy is a real downside of NewHair wigs.

. Although Newhair wigs are much less dense than many wigs, it can still be difficult to cover the edges where the parting is, unless you are fortunate enough to have thick hair. Despite considerable effort, when my hair was parted and pulled through the parting-gap of the wig by the hairdresser/ myself/ Newhair representative, there was insufficient density of hair to cover the edges of the wigs' parting. Conversely, when enough hair was pulled through the parting, because it had to be pulled from an area wider than the space allowed, it covered the wig's parting edges but refused to lie flat. Not good.

. The silkiness of my hair means that the wig slips somewhat too. Retaining it with additional pins/clips would defeat the object on NewHair for me - free flowing, scalp showing, real hair, set and stylable locks. I experienced similar slippage with wigs on hair-bands which travelled further back the head throughout the day unless secured (especially if you're fond of chewing).

. I admit to not being able to cornrow my own hair backwards. Were I able to do this either side of the parting every day (you're advised not to sleep in the product), it might potentially help prevent slippage for some especially at the NewHair parting. However, even when the stylist kindly did this, slipping continued for me.

. I found the wig very fiddly to put on with the parting combs, side combs and back combs. First the parting had to be made to the correct length and width and in the correct position. Not too challenging! Then, my own hair for the parting area had to be secured separately to that of hair to be covered by the wig. The wig then has to be held over the head, partings correctly aligned. The first of each comb needing to be pulled beyond the desired position, comb teeth then slid into position, combs locked and then both own and wig hair moved out of the way in preparation for securing the next comb. Admittedly, I did not have weeks to practice - as a securing comb detached after first wear.

. Although it was clearly - and I though refreshingly honestly explained to me by my NewHair representative that the combs securing the wig to the hair do from time-to-time become detached, I was not expecting this to happen after just one wear. NewHair however, do provide a repair service free of charge (although, you do have to manage without the wig in the time it takes to return the wig, have it repaired and then sent back to you).

. Following my experience, I suspect that NewHair wigs - a brilliant, fabulous idea - may need further development before being suitable for everyone in line with their claims. If like me:

. You have silky hair - you may experience slippage.

. You have virgin hair - you may not wish to perm/ process/ colour/ relax/ press your own exposed hair in order to closer match that of the wig.

. You cannot cornrow your own hair backwards - you may experience slippage.

. You don't have £75 -£125 to throw away - don't buy one!
