This Washer Is A Lousy Product. We've Had It For 3

This washer is a lousy product. We've had it for 3 years and from the beginning it has been high maintenance, hard to use and when it breaks extremely expensive to repair. I would give it zero stars.

I Bought This Ge Wbvh6240fww Washing Machine Witho

I bought this GE WBVH6240FWW washing machine without researching it, something I rarely do. I had heard about front loading machines, and had used commercial washers without problems, so did not anticipate problems with this.

The salesman spoke about all the great things: large loads, almost dry when they come out of the washer, can wash one sock if you want to- the machine will figure out how much water to use, etc.

In reality this is the scoop on this washer, and I have heard this is true of many front load washers.

1) The machine only spins correctly when there is a full load. For partial loads, it is common for the spin to not work either after the wash cycle or after the rinse cycle. We had 3 service calls out and each one said the washer was working correctly, but they could not explain why my clothes were sopping wet. There is a design flaw and the service person attempted to correct it by installing an inverter board, but that seemed to even make the spin cycle more out of balance. You see, when clothes are wet, they naturally fall to the lowest spot in the basket and because it is a front load washer, you cannot manually readjust the clothes so it will spin.

2) clothes come out dingy gray after a few washings. The salesman said the machine would adjust the water amount according to how full the basket was. That was not true. The machine attempts to wash the clothes in a very small amount of water, it looked like it was less than 2 gallons of water. So in effect, the clothes keep sloshing into a small bucket of water and just keep getting more soil on them. Same with the rinse water. I found my clothes being obviously dingy after a few washes.

3) the high spin tore many of my clothes and tore buttons off of clothes.

In short, I ruined more clothes in the 4 months that I had this machine, than I have in all the years of doing laundry at laundromats and in my private home (and it is a lot of years I have done laundry!)

To make matters worse, GE was not very helpful. There were long waits to talk to a customer service rep, they insinuated that I didn't know how to wash clothes, acted like they had never heard about this problem before (which I see according to reviews is not new), and they did not refund the money. They allowed me to substitute a different machine (a top loading machine per my request!!!), but did not refund the price difference. I must say we are now very satisfied with the top loading machine.
