The Bosch Wae24162gb Washing Machine Has An A+ For
The Bosch WAE24162GB washing machine has an A+ for energy usage. This could be because it seems to use less water than my previous models. (This could be common to all modern machines). Anyway, I am not on a water meter and so my main concern was that it would wash and rinse efficiently.
When it finishes rinsing, quite a bit of detergent (which I use frugally), seems to be left in the wash. (Members of the public might like to do a test on say a towel in a bucket of cold water to see if their machine has rinsed all the detergent out). As a result, I now have to turn the dial to rinse only mode once the main wash has finished to do extra rinsing. (You can see the remaining detergent residue through the window which proves it does not rinse well enough). I think 'Which' - the Consumers Association have also often given some Bosch machines low marks for rinsing.
I have cheap rate electricity at night and set a timer on my power point to switch on my washing machine at 6am. Now, this machine does not come with it's own self timer so for users wishing to take advantage of cheaper night rate power, an electricity point timer is essential. However, this Bosch model does not come with a mechanical ON / OFF switch. The way to get around this problem is to load your washing in the evening, then select the programme and switch on the power. Wait a couple of seconds until you hear the water start to load and then switch off the electricity AT THE POINT. Then pull out the plug and insert your timer and put the electricity switch to ON. If you have set the timer correctly, your washing machine will start at about 6am which will give you time to turn it to the additional rinse (if desired) before the power company put you on day time rate at 7.30am. All quite a palavra because Bosch seemingly are too stingy to fit a timer to their cheaper models and the rinsing is not very efficient.
