We Have Had Our Hotpoint Wd640g For Less Than A Ye

We have had our Hotpoint WD640G for less than a year and Im less than impressed. The washing machine started to leak after a few months. Rang hotpoint helpline and there only solution was to send an engineer, which would take 2 weeks. So I investigated myself and found that the filter was blocked. The filter is a pain to get at, but unfortunately its something you will have to do alot, especially if you use the dryer function.

Just before the warrenty ran out the machine started to leak again. This time, I think the fault is mechanical as the filter is not blocked. The machine just constantly fills with water, even when its turned off. Again I rang customer service, and again they are poor. Booked an engineer for a thursday. Was sent a text message the evening before stating he'd arrive between 8am and 1pm. That morning I recieved a text stating he'd arrive between 10 and 1. At 11, I received a text saying between 12 and 2.... at 2, I got a call from the engineer telling me he was not going to make it because he is based in dublin(im in kildare). He explained that the office that sends out the jobs is based in england and has no knowledge of Irish geography. They had scheduled all his jobs within 15 mins of each other. I live an hour from dublin.

He got them to call me to rearrange. 2 WEEK WAIT! I had a look myself and i seem to have found the problem. It appears that the inlet valves when jammed open. I disconnected then reconnected the water pipes and now all seems good...for now.

Back to the machine. The washing machine is good. Does what its supposed to do, but the dryer is far from the best. A full load will take upwards of 3 hours to dry fully, and will be badly creased.

Overall, this would be a great buy for a single person with very little laundry. But for a couple with normal laundry needs, I'd advice against this combined machine. We've now gone with a seperate drier but will continue to use the washing machine of this unit
