Don't Buy If You Have Pets
On first look I questioned why there was no accessible fluff filter - previous experience with a zanussi (left behind as part of a house move) had me emptying the filter weekly (3 cats and a dog). After lots of reassurance from the salesperson that the self-cleaning pump meant there was no need for users to empty a fluff filter, I finally bought it. BIG MISTAKE.
Approx every 3 months water pours out from the dispenser tray, and has ruined my lino and gotten into the base of the cupboards. Each time, we have to call an engineer (thank goodness I took out the extended warranty) who pulls out a small piece of fluff (looks suspiciously like cat hair) and machine works again... until the next time. The engineers basically say there's nothing I can do to prevent it (apart from lose the pets) and as per the other posts on this thread I have to either wait days for an appointment or take time off work for an

I Bought The Hotpoint Wd440p In Oct 2006, So Have
I bought the Hotpoint WD440P in Oct 2006, so have had it for 3.5 years. I have had no problem with it until now, but don't use the drier function at all now - preferring to hang up my clothing and save electricity - it did take a long time to dry stuff. Otherwise found the washer fine until last month, when all the control panel lights started flashing when I turned it on. It did come finally, and I could use it, but the length of time the lights flash before the machine actually turns on has got longer and longer, so I finally called the service man and now find that the computer board has gone. Apparently this has been a fault on other models he has worked on - so now I face a £150 repair bill. I elected to have it fixed this time - but am now wondering whether that was the right choice.

Experiences With Hotpoint Wd440p (also Trade Under
EXPERIENCES WITH HOTPOINT WD440P (ALSO TRADE UNDER ARISTON & CREDA BRANDS)
Have owned one for 18 months and it's been nothing but trouble - washing is reasonable, drying is an absolute hell, switches itself off moments after being programmed, nothing but flashing lights and very difficult to get going again.
Heater element has been replaced (actually broke into two parts with a blinding flash that blew the house fuses) when you do manage to get it to go it takes hours and the clothes are still damp.
I believe there to be an inherent fault in these machines and HOTPOINT should have a safety recall and replace what's wrong with them at their expense - as something is obviously very wrong!!
And is doing untold damage to their brand name
Our previous washer/dryer was a Hoover and that still dried clothes in less than an hour - big mistake getting rid of it, wish we had kept it!!
This is one pile of rubbish - YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED, BUY AT YOUR PERIL!!!

Complete Rubbish!!!! The 'revolutionary' Internal
Complete rubbish!!!! The 'revolutionary' internal filters block with lint from standard washing and hotpoint say pet hair can be too much for it to cope with! It takes them forever to get an engineer out and they don't do any evenings or weekends so it will cost you time off work too. Buy at your peril!!

Hotpoint 440 Washer/drier. I Hate This Machine, It
Hotpoint 440 Washer/Drier. I hate this machine, it's been a nightmare to use. I've just been waiting for it to break down so I could justify changing it for something else. It is the worst machine I've EVER owned bar none in 40 years of housewifery.
The washer wasn't too bad but the drier was hell. The worst thing about it was that having set the timer and started the programme you can't stop it or open the door until it finishes, and it takes ages, much longer than the time you set as it has some weird and disturbing programme involving quite a bit of running water. The clothes took hours to get anything like dry. Nothing ever dried completely - I'm certain that on a short cycle eg 1 hour or less, it came out even wetter.
Drying also got very creased. I had to be very careful to turn the drier timer off each time, because the timer never returned to zero, so unless I remembered to reset it before starting the next wash, or if the switch was accidently knocked on, there was no way of stopping it going onto drier mode and churning away for hours creasing the clothes without ever getting them dry.
Another drawback was that, on the washing or drying cycle there was no way of knowing how far it had got or how long it had left to run. Even the wash programme went on for ages and ages. I imagine that any money I saved on buying a cheaper machine has gone on increased electricity bills several times over. Would have been better to have bought a more econimical machine in the first place, especially as I haven't been able to make use the drier.
And the lettering on the panel wore off very quickly.
Now it HAS broken down. The wash programme stops several times each cycle,it doesn't rinse or spin properly leaving the cloths soapy and dripping. Hurrah!!! I can get a new one - Anything but Hotpoint.

Similar story...had Hotpoint WD440P 2 years and had to call out engineers over 4 times. Broke again today after last repair 2 days ago.
Relative worked for Hotpoint and advised me never to buy Hotpoint as they are poorly built and don't last(too late. Also advised never by a combi machine..."Jack of all trades master of none" does 2 jobs nowhere near as good as a machine designed to do the one job. "Schoolboy error"
Engineer told me "There are no good Hotpoint/Indesit machines on the market and they don't last"
Worst purchase I have ever made and when extended warranty is up..buying a better machine.

Wd440p Hotpoint Washer Dryer I Wish I H
WD440P Hotpoint Washer Dryer
I wish I had read the other reviews before buying one of these 18 months ago.
Last weekend we had lots of flashing lights and the machine just stopped washing part way through a cycle. Engineer didn't come out for several days... two days later it has packed up again and they won't come out for another 5 days. No warranty after one year so they gave us the choice of £130 per call out or £160 for another year's warranty.
Also, the dials on the front don't tell you how far through a cycle you are, the wool cycle bangs like someone trying to batter down the front door and spin is so loud you can't hear yourself think.

The Hotpoint Indesit Wd440p Washer Dryer; Unreliab
The Hotpoint Indesit WD440P washer dryer; unreliable, noisy and bar far the worst appliance I have EVER purchased. I bought it nearly 3 years ago (it broke down in the first 12 months) and have had an engineer out over 18 times to fix it (for the same reason I might add the problem is always F13). What a complete waste of money! I think I will go back to hand washing my clothes.

Purchased The Hotpoint Wd440p Washer Dryer In May
Purchased the hotpoint wd440p washer dryer in May last year, it has never dried properly, and after a couple of unsuccessful engineer repairs, I gave up calling them.
Then in March of this year I came home from work and the washing machine was still washing the clothes after 8 hours..... the cycle would not cancel, and the only way of stopping it is to turn it off at the wall. 3 engineer visits (and 3 weeks after the first phone call) I was told the machine was repaired, and left the machine on and went away for a night. Came back to my flat smelling of burning and found that the dryer had been drying for 24 hours, that my clothes were ruined as the machine had melted onto my clothes, and that the clothes were still damp!
Called Comet and asked for a refund, and said I would have to wait yet another week for an engineer to come and try and fix it, so I am now dealing with citizens advice to help us get a refund.
