Maytag Sovereign 60

We bought a Maytag Sovereign 60 from John Lewis in 2007, for an eye-atering £2000. Reputable make, reputable seller. We knew we were paying through the nose, but we thought we were buying rugged reliability. You do rather need reliability in a fridge freezer at the basic level of staying cold, right? Turns out we were buying the most unreliable fridge we've ever owned. Three times now we have the same problem - the control board (a key electonic comppoenent) has failed. Sometimes at intervals just 18 months apart. Three times! Each time all regfrigeration has been lost, and so all the contents of the freezer have been lost. There is no alarm or warning system. To add insult to injury, when it ocmes to service there is no urgency in the response, no hint of apology, no offer of recompense. If you are out of guarantee - forget it; you pay. Maytag - an outrageous rip-off. Do not touch with your longest barge pole.

Our last fridge freezer (Electrolux one) lasted for 25 years - our Maytag Sovereign 60 is only 15months old and I would get rid of it tomorrow had I not built in into the kitchen! So far lost two full frige and freezer loads of food. Don't buy Maytag!

The service engineers were prompt and called back very quickly when I contacted Maytag. This may be because we live in Surrey where population is very concentrated. The only problem we have had is the unreliability aspect.

We have a Maytag fridge freezer - not this model. Maytag customer service is consistently appalling - our call was first booked on 2nd May and we got the final fix today on 16th July. Maytag does not employ its own technicians but employs service agents and has scoured the country for the worst. For all the money I have spent on the Maytag fridge freezer since buying it in late 2000 I could have had 3 Samsungs.
