Prepare For Puddles
For the job of general cooling and freezing it has worked fine. The temperature display is difficult to work even with the instruction book. Anyway, just after the 3 year guarantee ran out it started to leak water on to floor around the front right side. After looking at the back of it I couldn't track down where the water was coming from although there was a reasonable amount of it judging from the stains. I tried to manage the flow of water into the metal tray under the area at the back but after a little while it just leaked again. When I looked at the back of the fridge again the water seemed to be coming from higher up somewhere. Some water was dripping on a small box with electric cables going into it and although no water was getting in at the moment, who knows if it might do in the future with consequent fire risk.
I contacted John Lewis customer care but all they said was to call the repair company. As I couldn't figure out myself where the water was coming from I doubted that a repair man would unless this was a known problem.
I decided to have one more attempt myself at fixing it. After reading various web sites for freezer problems I figured that the drain tube must be blocked somewhere and prepared to poke something up the tube. The tube itself drains into a small tub on top of the motor. When I took the tube out there was a plastic bung in the end and when I removed it a load of water shot out. I don't understand why the bung was there. It had no apparent hole in it to let water out but I presume it did have one which was filled with scale. Obviously water was blocked in the drain tube, backing up inside the freezer and coming out wherever it could. I removed the bung and it hasn't leaked since.
Had exactly the same problem, checked the manual a dozen times to see if this bung was just for packing but no mention of it. Now i have a ruined carpet
Q&A
Had it for a while, and suddenly the fridge does not work. Freezer works ok. Have check settings and power supply. Door is closing okay. What to do?
The fridge freezer has worked fine but I have had to replace the fridge door once already (just after the guarantee ran out). Two and half years later, it has broken again, something to do with the hinge. I would like to know what the official dimensions are of this fridge and let them know there is a design flaw. How do I do that?
