Beko CF6914W Fridge Freezer

This concerns issues with Beko PLC (model CF6914W Fridge Freezer); which I believe should fairly be made a matter of public awareness. Which affect British customers adversely, and prejudicially. As opposed to those on the continent of Europe. And also Hoover fridge freezers.

According to BBC Radio 4 'You and Yours' programme of Wednesday 6 March 2013 in an item it exposed known manufacturing faults with Beko products. Which has resulted in the deaths of 11 people, it was revealed. Beko being a Turkish company.

The situation I am drawing to public awareness is that, I needed a replacement for a Hoover HCA 310K fridge freezer; which had a 6.2 cu ft fridge; and a 4.4 cu ft freezer (10.6 cu ft combined capacities as described by Hoover.

I wanted a product with a larger freezer compartment, so I searched online, and visited the Beko manufacturers product website.

I found their (model) CF6914W fridge freezer (in May / June 2012.

This was clearly, and unequivocally described as having a 6.5 cu ft fridge, and a 4.4 cu ft freezer (11.1 cu ft combined capacities as described by Beko). These Beko product descriptions may be found independently, by visiting the Beko product range website.

... Unless it involves (East Riding of Yorkshire) Council's anarchistic Trading Standards I Consumer Protection Departments...

However, when it was delivered I found that this product description was wrong. The capacities were expresses (ambiguously) in litres. Stated as being 175 litres (fridge) and (only) 94 litres (freezer) capacities. And it was then found that the fridge compartment was suspiciously smaller than a capacity of some 6.5 cu ft (gross).

Also Beko stated that the product was green - energy rated. Implying the top rating of energy consumption efficiency.

However having been beguiled into parting with a large sum of money this was similarly found to be wrong. This rating being only the FOURTH best (yellow) rating.

Beko's own product info states that the product consumes 345 kW hours of energy per year. Which, for what it contains is unacceptably excessive.

Beko when contacted by (E-Mail forwarded) letters acted in denial, and dispute of fact. It replied initially with letters which were duplicitous, and specious in the tone of their reply. Which were a bare-faced 'fob-off’. Worthy of an unregulated 'rogue trader', as seen on BBC TV ('Watchdog') programme. And other channel’s programmes.

After three letter responses, Beko merely acknowledged receipt, and that my comments had been noted... Even though aware that the matter had been drawn to public attention, via broadcast media (BBC TV 'Watchdog', and Radio 4 'You and Yours'); and local, and London broad sheet newspapers; and to the Minister for local government.

The matter was referred to East Riding of Yorkshire Council Trading Standards Department who adopted what was clearly a corruptly complicitous, and duplicitous stance; in connivance, and collusion with Beko PLC.

Even though this involves a matter of Trade Descriptions points of issue. And that my decision to purchase was directly influenced by the compartment capacity sizes described by Beko on it's official website. That being a qualifying criterion upon which action is justifiable under consumer protection laws. EG: Sale of Goods act etc.

I have lobbied for Beko to refund my original purchase price under the circumstances of it's duplicities; and culpabilities. And/ or for it to then retake possession of the unwanted product.

As an appropriate (means) of remedy for a situation (involving breach of Trade Descriptions law; and "Material detriment") caused.

But that has been studiously ignored by Beko.

It also needs to be known that the CF6914W is an example of bad design. And that there are better products out there for the money...

For example, the freezer draws are cunningly designed with an inward projecting lip; which means consequently that a 4 pint carton of milk will not fit in to the draw, without having to be twisted sideways -which very effectively limits what can be stored.

Also the salad drawer has chopped off inner corners which significantly restricts it's usable capacity; and when pulled open slides upwards by the same ratio of movement outwards - cunningly restricting access into the salad drawer.

The shelf spacing similarly limits available usable space. Certainly not design classic status...

It is also unduly sensitive to, and adversely affected by temperatures below 15 degrees centigrade. Beko warn that it's product malfunctions at, and below that temperature. Caveat Emptor...

The situation above mentioned concerning Beko (faulty products) appears as an echo of that relating to Hoover as exposed by BBC TV 'Watchdog' programme some years ago. Whose products it had been found were also 'temperature sensitive'; and furthermore were deliberately designed to operate only in the range 5 to 10 degrees

Centigrade. Rather than the more normally accepted 0 to 5 Degrees.

This is another manufacturer to be avoided like the plague. When thinking of parting with your hard earned…
