12-12-09. The Indesit electric single fan oven was fitted.
14-12-09. Noticed that the oven had started to scorch the doors of the unit's ether side of the oven.
14-12-09. Doors removed to prevent any further damage.
18-12-09. First engineer from Indesit came to look at the oven but he was unable to find anything mechanically wrong with the oven. He was also unable to comment on the excessive heat of the side on the oven that was causing the scorching of the doors. He did comment that: as the kitchen was older than 10 years, the doors may not be as heat resistant as modern doors.
21-12-09. I checked the temperature of the outside of the oven and found it to be 107 degrees.
23-12-09. second engineer from Indesit came to look at the oven. He was also unable to find any mechanical problems with the oven. He was unable to find any data as to what the outside temperature should be and that he would get back to me .
I asked him if he would have an oven that could get so hot that it could cause scorching of the doors to the unit's ether side of the oven or serious injury from burning.
He said he was unable to make an official comment but on a human level he would have to say no!
The second engineer rang me later that day to explain that the technical department had found the specifications for the operation of the oven and that it was operating within the specifications of 100 degrees plus ambient temperature.
When I asked if it was acceptable for the out side of the oven to reach such a high temperature that could cause injury to a child, I was told that all ovens get hot and that children should not be in the kitchen when an oven is in use.
I was not happy with this so I contacted Consumer Direct who recommended that I write to B&Q who the original contract was with, stating that under the sale of goods act 1979 I did not consider the oven fit for purpose because of the damage it caused due to the excessive heat and that I was returning the oven to them requesting a full refund. I rang the manager and informed him that this is what I would be doing. I delivered the letter to him by hand later that day.
