With two grown-up children, a husband and a cat, the Vax Magnum carpet cleaner is adequate for my needs. Not expensive, nice looking purple and grey and see through cylinder to check if full. Good suction (which I find is the most important aspect), easy to use and medium in noise quality. The handheld mini hoover attachment is extremely handy and the reason why I bought it. Great for stairs and furniture and picks up cat hair really well.
However it is a little heavy for a small machine and the cable doesn't stretch far enough for my liking even though my rooms are not that big!
The biggest bug bear is having to clean the filter as well as the cylinder every time I empty it.
