The Filter Keeps Filling With Dust!

Of course it does - that's why it's there. Mine is used (quite unfairly)as a dust extractor on a small saw bench, making more dust in a few minutes than a householder will get in a month. Keeping an eye on it, and emptying the container in good time - a very simple and clean job - avoids any trouble. If your machine keeps shutting down, appreciate the thermal cut-out. It's telling you that you should already have emptied the container. If you use an Alyx, play fair with it, or buy an industrial machine.

Just to add to my previous comment. The suction on the Alyx is always excellent, but I admit that cleaning the filter is certainly a very dusty job. I do that in the open air outside my workshop while still wearing my equally dusty woodworking clothes, so no real bother. A householder could find emptying a real bind.

Again, my regards to you.

Hi,

Honest. I have no connection with, or interest in. Hoover. My comment shows exactly how I find the Alyx TC1202. It was bought second-hand, looking as new, for £15. It's used every time I saw or use the router. Having read the many adverse reports, I never let the collector get overfull. So far I have never washed the round filter nor the flat pad, but always tap them vigorously and use a soft brush to remove as much dust as possible. The cleaner has never stopped through thermal cut-out. One tip. There is a third filter pad where the hose connects to the cleaner. That once became partly blocked, and I have since cleaned it as part of the filter routine.

My son, a jobbing builder, swears by his Henry, but look what he paid.

My regards to you.

Why One Star? Well. There Was No Option For None...

Awful. This chinese made vacuum sucks well, but not for long...

My first one started spitting out flames after two weeks, Hoover replaced it with one which lasted just thirteen months. When you consider this was used around twenty times in my 30' Boat, rather than a daily household cleaner, this is seriously appalling.

Hoover wanted nothing to do with this second failure, as it was out of warranty, and wouldn't even phone me back as promised.

When it was working, it filled up far too quickly, and the filter was a biatch to clean, unlike my lovely Dysons at home...

Nil points Hoover, I will NEVER buy another Hoover product. Hope you go the same way as Saab ;-)

Nifty Little Machine

I have read the other reviews on this machine, and thought oh why did I buy it...

WELL ... I think it is very very good.

If you are looking for a heavy duty machine, you need to buy a upright machine with rotating brushes. This Alyx, is perfect for normal domestic use.. The machine does not fall over, as another reviewer wrote, it is quite sturdy, and flexable. I find the cable wire quite long enough.

The suction is strong enough for normal household duties.

The sound of the hoover is good. The machine is emptied easily...

Avoid Like The Plague!

My last vacuum cleaner expired after 24 years use, so spotting a 'bargain' in my local Morrisons I bought a Hoover Alyx. After 20 minutes use the Alyx would cut out and not start again for 24 hours! When I complained to Hoover they sent me a larger filter to replace the original and advised to clean the filter in the washing machine at 60ºC. This worked better but the filter needs constant cleaning and it takes longer to clean the filter than it does to do the vacuuming! Now after the 1 year guarantee has run out the on/off switch has packed up. Replacement 9 Pounds. I might as well buy a new vacuum cleaner. I can't afford a Dyson or equivalent so will look for a cheap bag cleaner which will be less hassle. Hoover Pah!

Boozle

Will Never Buy Hoover Again

Badly designed, very dirty process emptying the machine, dust goes everywhere, spend more time emptying and cleaning the Hoover than the home. Should be removed from the Market immediately.

Quite Possibly The Worst Cleaner You Can Buy - Hoover Alyx

I bought this cleaner after my Dyson upright broke down. The Dyson was ok but was heavy and cumbersome, and so I decided that I'd look for something lighter. In the end I opted for a cylinder cleaner.

They say you get what you pay for - it was coming up to Christmas - money was tight so I set myself a budget of £100.

The Hoover Alyx seemed good value, given it was manouverable, stylish, bagless, with a powerful motor and the backing of a brand that invented the things. So what could go wrong?

Well the £70 I paid was where the good new ended. Like many of the other reviews soon here I quickly found the Alyx was a pain to use.

The cord is too short.

The cleaner often ends up on it's side when using the nozzle in anything but the straight on position.

The wheels stick out - stylish but it won't go round corners and it'll take chunks out of your skirting boards if you try.

But by far the most infuriating thing about the Hoover is it's inability to pick anything up. The filter blocks oh so quickly (I'm talking one clean) and from then on its like an asthmatic sucking though a straw. At this point you might as well get down on your knees with a pair of tweezers because it will be quicker and far more effective.

The other thing you can do is clean the filter. So much for the hepa filter - the amount of dust you'll breath in whilst doing so will take at least 5 years off your life. Of course then you'll need to clean up after you've cleaned the filter because of all the dust thats gone everwhere, and a shower wouldn't go amiss either.

To summarise this is the most useless, unfit for purpose piece of household equipment I have ever purchased and it borders on incompetence. No, I take that back it is incompetence!

Drives Me Mad!

Bought this when I moved to a small bungalow thinking it would be idea for small spaces. Okay it is to a point, but it's so noisy I can hardly bear to use it and the filter clogs every time. I brush the filter after every use and wash every week. The brush bar has taken chunks out of my vinyl floor. The cleaner falls over when I use the hose and stretch it even a tiny bit. I thought I could rely on the Hoover name for a decent product. Never again will I by anything that has

Don't Buy This Garbage

We have had this vaccuum for 6 months and has been a disaster everyday. It has flaws in it's design which hoover won't accept.

The problem everyone who owns one is very common it's hepa filter gets blocked as soon as you start vaccumming once you've cleaned filter. I contacted hoover and they sent me a new filter. It was okay 3 days then blocked again. I contacted them again and they told me to wash it in laundry. I washed it but before you can wash it you have to take filter out of bagless case and clean the gaps in the the filter with a small screwdriver, which is a long, hard and dirty process.

I contacted hoover again and they keep telling me it's my fault cause i'm not cleaning filter. They said an engineer would come and inspect it, but if there is nothing wrong with filter then i'll be charged £70. I told them don't bother because I know he will say the same thing.

Does anyone know how to get a refund from hoover. Thanks
