LAPINA SAYS ECLECTICISM MAKES ART MORE INTERESTING

On his mostly-instrumental album, ECLECTIC EVE, keyboardist Christopher Lapina musically tells the tale of a woman making an important, soul-searching life trek and succeeding in becoming a more knowledgeable, creative and well-rounded person. She finds eclecticism is an important and necessary element of her life.

Lapina says he made the music eclectic to reflect her many and wide-ranging experiences. He believes eclecticism makes art deeper, richer in meaning and more interesting.

If this helped Lapina create this eclectic music (ranging from melodic new age to minimalistic ambient to light-jazz), so be it. The selections on this CD include group numbers (with guitars, bass, percussion, keyboards and sometimes sax or drums), cello duets with either a piano or a synthesizer, one piano and synth duet, one short solo piano piece, and a jazz-band-and-vocal composition (although the multiple singers sing sounds, not words).

This is an interesting project from the behind-the-music-concept to the wide variety of musical genres explored within a single disc. Lapina is sort of a modern-day Renaissance composer and producer who would drag in the kitchen sink and pound on it if he thought it would add to the music. This is the sort of music that is majorly difficult to describe, so if this description whetted your appetite, you best listen to some excerpts to see if it is your type of thing.
