“Ya sas Maria and Kyriakis!”

★★★★☆

written by bridportpetra on 12/10/2012

We arrived (late) at Preveza on 23rd Sept. 2012, where we were met by our cheery, helpful rep, Phil, who had a taxi waiting to take us to Nidri. At the Demetra Studios we were met by our host Maria, who showed us our apartment and whisked us off to the bar for a free welcome raki- I think she was impressed by my very shaky knowledge of Greek! The apartment was more than adequate for the holiday we had booked, and was beautifully clean. There is a supermarket two doors away, and lots of good bakers nearby. The pool looks onto the harbour, and is a lovely size for a cool-down swim in the afternoon. Town has 3 pharmacies, lots of supermarkets and bakers, a butcher and about 3 ATMs. Loads of tavernas and bars on the road and on the seaside, most of which are good, though we liked Mamma Mia best. The bus to Lefkas town runs frequently, and it is worth going there to sample the 'big' 'city' The marina there is new, the archeological museum is certainly worth visiting and the churches and architecture are very different from elsewhere in Greece.Shopping's not too bad either! From Nidri there are also many boat trips to islands like Keffalonia, Ithaka, Skorpios and Meganissi, which we enjoyed. We booked a round the island trip with our helpful rep, Phil and that saved us having to hire a car, and we also booked a trip to the mainland to see ancient Nikopolis and visit Parga, which is a delightful seaside town. A couple of times we walked to Desimi beach (about 4.5 km), and en route, between Nidri and Vlicho there are some Bronze Age burial circles. Phil the rep and all the other guests left on 4th October, but we stayed until 7th so Maria and Kyriakis took it upon themselves to become our substitute parents and showered kindness on us at all times!! We would come back, and our lovely holiday was only enhanced by the unprecedented heatwave for this time of year, and only marred by the mosquitoes
