Recently completed an RHS level 3 in garden design and learned a lot! The course was broken down into 4 modules and required you to complete the coursework for the 1st module before being sent the 2nd etc. Which is great as it makes it more digestable and helps to ensure you have at least partly learned the module (there is also room for further study and extra past papers!!). The next module was sent as soon as the college recieved your coursework for the module and then completed coursework was marked and returned promptly by your personal tutor with useful feedback. Assistance at anytime from your tutor was available (though I never actually made use of this). Overall a great way to get an overview of the course and into the mind frame for the exams. Great value for money as this was cheaper than any other RHS recognised college of its type. The course was distance learning with no classes to attend (just FYI).

The horticultral correspondence college have great courses for anyone interested in many different areas of gardening to enrol onto. The courses are very detailed but also easy to understand with help from a personal tutor who marks your assignments who is also there for you to ask any questions regarding the course and what you are studying. Your tutor is an expert in the area you are studying so has lots of knowledge and they are very friendly also! The application proccess is extremely easy and straight forward which makes enrolling so much more desirable! I would highly recomend the horticultral correspondence college to anyone.

Well worth the money...… Realy good feedback and correspondence from the course tutor. A good coverage of everything you need to know and more. It took me 18 months to complete , but could be done faster if not so busy. Definitely reccomend if you are interested in gardening.

I thouroghly enjoyed my course work to which I received a certificate of Distinction once completed. I would highly recommend HCC & in fact a friend of mine is currently studying an HCC course on my recommendation . I liked that there was no deadline to have the lessons returned by & I could fit my studying in around my family & work life. I also liked that there was an option of a payment plan as trying to find the full amount in one go is not always easy

The course are extremely good the staff and tutor support is second to none. The courses are informative and the subjects are well researched and provide information I have just finished Conservation Studies which I found useful and informative. I am at present studying Garden Landscape and design drawing and Japanese Garden design which are different subjects which I have never covered before.I like a challenge. I have been studying with the college for nearly 9 years.

When I found The Horticulture correspondence School online I thought this was great, to be able to study Horticulture in my own time and not be restrict to a set timetable of classes within a standard college. It help me to develop my knowledge in the field at my own pace, focusing on a particular module at a time. The course on propagation had excellent course notes which I could follow easily and also expand my knowledge on. The feed back from the tutors were excellent and gave me a better understand of the field. Everything from registration to the end on the course was delivered with excellence. I would Highly recommended this college to a friend.

When I've phoned the collage staff have been helpful, happy and lighthearted to talk to. Tutors are friendly and helpful. Only neutral comment is once you've paid for your course in full all your course work should be sent to you, as there are periods where you have to wait.

I first started studying with them back in 2008/2009 when the director was alive. I did the RHS LEVEL 2, I found that the support from my tutor and from the guys at the horticultural correspondence college was just fantastic. My tutor was amazing and always there if and when I needed help. Then in 2012/13 I was helped out personally by the director who helped me to sort out flyers etc for my own gardening business. I also did a conservation studies course with the college and loved it. Im working in retail and have since decided to start studying with the college again, I will be doing the market gardening course. I can't see why so many people are leaving lewd and disrespectful reviews about the college. If you think that you are better off wasting your money on other things then good on you, but think before you review as your comments may be putting people off who would like to study with the the horticultural correspondence college.

The College is very happy to be paid for a course with pretty awful, dull and rambling notes in a folder. Everything is by snail mail. If you want to email assignments then you have to type out questions yourself. If you send via scans the admin cannot open them. Slow turn around - my last was a week over the publicised time, and when I requested the next assignment be posted to me, to complete over my holiday period, I was ignored because the previous one hadn't been submitted, making me feel like a child! Folders lack organisation such as page numbers relating to an index. If you register to sit an exam and pay on line apparently no receipt is issued unless you specifically ask- which is an annoying waste of time- a better bet is EGS - a tutor online at weekends and better revision notes, tips and comprehensive feedback too. The offer to mark past papers is a bit of a gimmick, too- papers and sample answers are all on line and open access anyway.

I have been in contact with the Horticultural Correspondence College for months & they Do Not Answer my Questions! Nor does the person I dealt with respond to e-mail! They give you the vaguest idea of who wants their certificates: "councils, wildlife trusts, etc." I cant find any of them that want or require their certificates. They also do not help or advise on any employment opportunities once a "certificate" is achieved?! So, what is the point in paying for a certificate if there are No employers who want them.

I just wanted to let everyone know that even though this company is still advertised everywhere it is no longer trading. Very upset as I only enrolled a couple of months ago, and I think they must have known this was coming. They are now impossible to contact by any means. Their answering machine says that they are still on half term break (which would make it the longest half term break ever!)

Thanks for letting me know. I paid nearly £300 for the RHS Level 2 Theory course, and I've received half of the materials to date. And now that I'm ready for feedback they no longer exist. How did you find out, and do you have any idea what to do now?

Hi The company suspended operations following the death of their director. It has re-opened and offers support to existing students and welcomes new enquiries.

I research carefully before enrolling to study the RHS Level 2 Certificate. I picked the HCC because I was able to speak to a tutor immediately on the phone and they were very helpful and knowledgeable. They only offer courses in this area so I felt that they were more specialist. I have been very pleased with the course books I received and the the whole process of sending in my work for marking has been very smooth and the sample answers were provided with my work so I could compare my work to those as well as the feedback from the tutor. The revision pack that I was given free with the course has been very useful and I have passed the first part with 87% fingers crossed for the rest. I cannot fault the service I have been given and I shall definitely to moving onto the Level 3 next.

Not sure why all the negative reviews. These people are affordable and their course textbooks are the best out there - compared to others who wrote the exams with me. Just read the book, do the questions and when you get to the official RHS exams you're ready. They've always been just a phone call away. I didn't need or use the tutors, so I can't comment on those. Anyways they now have a great value for money textbook only option now without the tutoring.

Very disappointing course, poor tutor support (no email support at all, so it all had to be by post). The notes were a mixture of good and bad sections - seemed almost cut and pasted. Really poor and disappointing, and the tutor feedback was very limited. No support during revision either. Definitely not recommended.

I have read negative reviews against the HCC, but have no reason to write a similar report. I feel the materials are well put together and informative and are easy to follow; so long as you are well organised. I have easily completed the RHS Level 2 course in under a year - also working part time and studying for a History degree and Ecology diploma. I have always found the staff helpful and my tutor always replies within a week. I actually like the idea of not being able to e-mail your tutor - besides post always worked adequately in the past!

I have been studying with the college since September. I signed up for the RHS Level 2 and 3 unwittingly, only to learn later that the level 3 course I'd enrolled on was already basically obsolete. I can't believe they were still taking enrolments for it, and they still haven't explained why. The tutors and admin staff are impossible to contact, and just don't reply to emails if you have a difficult question for them. The course was very costly for what it is - a stack of poorly printed notes and hardly any tutor support. I'd definitely avoid this lot, they have no real interest in students at all, it's just about getting the money in as fast as they can.

Unlike the other reviewer I've managed to complete the level 2 part of the course in less than a year and have just sat the exam. There is a lot of information but it covers everything and the bits that are extra are interesting. My tutor has been really helpful and I haven't really needed to ask them questions because everything is in the notes. When I send the assignments off I might write a note with a few quesries which are always answered fully. I gues it depends on what your learning style is. I'm quite used to self directed learning maybe others who aren't would find an evening class more helpful.

I signed up for the 2 year joint course (RHS level 2 and level 3 certificates) after being told that I would have penty of time to complete both courses. I'm now 18 months in and still haven't completed the level 2, so I'm faced with having no tutor and no support to get me through the exams. There's no chance of completing the level 3.
2 years is just not long enough, dont let them kid you that it is.
The study material is waffly, difficult to follow and confusing. It looks as if they have just stuck loads of little bits together and some of it makes no sense. They advertise that their courses are very long (1500 words for level 2 alone) which they are, but believe me a lot of it is just waffle and it takes some ploughing through.
The tutor takes forever to reply to queries. He doesn't use email and I had to submit all of my questions by post, so it took over 2 weeks to get a reply each time. In the meantime, I was stuck and couldn't move forward with my studies.
I've found the whole think massively stressful, because I've wasted all that money and they are trying to make out like it's my fault for not working quick enough. But how can I when the tutor takes so long just to reply to a simple question.
Save your money and look at what courses your local college offers instead. This lot are just a bunch of jokers.

Hi,
I would like to help you. You may have contacted the Horticultural Correspondence College just after our founder passed away. This sad event resulted in the management and operation of the college going through considerable change. We are now up and running again. Please would you contact me.
Kind regards
Kerry

Really?! Seems like there are quite a few people who have had a Very Poor experience with HCC. Also, the founder passed away? What does that have to do with how the entire College operates? When Steve Jobs passed away Apple did not shut down. How do you propose to "help"?

As I had mentioned in the first comment, HCC does not respond to e-mail or reviews posted on line! Someone has offered to "help" but has Not responded?! Usually "help" starts with communication & HCC has Still not responded.
