Thought it will be good to share the tele88 instant dial service that allows you to make cheap international calls without having to pay any upfront subscription fees. I am a pensioner and have my kids living abroad in South Africa and Australia. I use to call them using my BT home phone and it would cost me a large monthly bill. I found an alternative way from moneysavingexpert that recommended this via its call checker. Was first a bit skeptical but gave it a go. First, you have to look for the country you wish to call and dial in the access number followed by the international phone number. There are voice instructions available as you dial. The rates of the calls are very reasonable and certainly better than what BT charges me. I never have problems with the line quality and usually get connected fairly quickly. The negatives are that you start getting charged per minute once you have dialed the access number no matter if the other side picks up the phone. However, at 1p a min, I can live with it.
