Chickens?! As Pets?! (i Hear You Say!) I Started O

CHICKENS?! As pets?! (I hear you say!) I started off with 6 hens 3 years ago, but I am now down to 2, which is far more manageable in a garden as pets. These were given to me, as the previous owner could no longer look after them, so they cost me nothing. Over the years I have had more eggs than I could ever use, so I have given loads away to family and friends. The birds eat anything in the garden such as weeds and insects, but they also need a supply of layers pellets to keep them healthy and laying lovely eggs, plus plenty of fresh water. They are Rhode Island Reds, and their names are AliGee and Ginger. They sleep in a very large converted rabbit hutch with a separate section for a nesting box. Putting themselves to bed at night and they have the freedom of a fully enclosed garden all day. All I need to do for them is feed, water and clean their coop out regularly, then just enjoy their company, and their eggs! Kids love them, and they are fascinated by them! They are not suitable pets for many, but they are great for us! They are now about 6 years old, and I have heard they can live for about 12 years. They are not suitable with dogs, but fine with cats, but they will chase cats if they get too close! Wonderful birds, and I love them to bits, but not enough to eat them!! Perish the thought!!
