Lovely Riding School!

My daughter rides weekly at Mobberley and had gained so much confidence from her instructor in the last year, she is only 6 but rides off the lead, she gets to have a go on several different ponies and is doing so well, as a rider myself I have every admiration for the instructors who have to run round helping the children, my daughter has correct position & technique explained to her and she loves going!

Awful, Clueless Instructor!

I took my neice to mobberly for a riding lesson today and what shambles, the instructor didn't have clue how to ride. We have show horses and compete regulary at a very high level. We just don't have a smaller, kick and go pony for our neice to learn on, so we thought we would try mobberly to get our neice going. My neice having previously been riding a friends pony with our instruction and competing in the leid rein class was already at a good basic standard with a good seat in walk and trot. Well, within 30 minutes after riding a pony that wouldnt move, she had learnt how not to sit, how not to rise, how not to take contact and basically when she came out we told her to forget everything that the so called 'instructor' had said!!

In conclusion if i could give this place less than 1 star i would, avoid this so called riding school like the plague, the staff don't have a clue!!

Interesting, my daughter rides at Mobberley and has wonderful lessons, sometimes on a pony which I believe has won at Cheshire Show in the past with staff, I have horses which I hunt and show & I have no problem with what the instructors say, perhaps your niece isn't as good as you think, each to their own I suppose!

Best Riding School Around

Ive been going the Mobberley for 1 and a half years now, before that i was un-confident trotting, I now know how to do all 3 trots, I canter without stirrups and trot without reigns or stirrups! I can also jump now on the 4th bar up. The Mobberley staff are always welcoming and the girls will always help you, they all give you the confidence you need. Go here if you want to see a proper riding school .

Expensive But Defiantly Worth It!

I have been going to Mobberley Riding School for only three months, I have learnt so much, I hadn't ridden in four years so I didn't know what to expect, they asked me questions about my riding history and put me on a suitable horse. The horses are great and after a length of three months I have learnt how to: improve my seat, sit the trot, ride with no stirrups , neck rein, canter and I am now learning how to jump!!! The staff are very enthusiastic and encouraging, if you aren't comfortable with your instructor or horse you can simply ask for a different one at reception. I have lessons weekly and look forward to every single one, I would defiantly recommend this stable to any first time rider, even though it is expensive I think it is worth every penny!

So Far, So Good!

I have had several lessons at Mobberley Riding School having been put off for two years after a bad fall cantering at another school. So far I have had two different instructors whom were both extremely kind and sympathetic especially given that some of the first lesson was spent standing still due to my nerves! On the third lesson I managed a trot, something I thought I would never do during the first two lessons, this was due to the gentle persistence of the instructor, who although she probably normally teaches people who go much faster than me, had the patience of a saint and gently pushed me to do more as the lesson went on. Regarding the last review where the person was pushed too much, I have not felt this to be the case at all and the staff have always been accommodating and friendly. The instructor for my third lesson was very chatty, telling me all about the horse I was riding (called Spice!) and his history and she clearly had a close bond with him which helped my nerves as well! It is quite expensive to have a private lesson but I think it is worth it at the moment as I am now looking forward to my lessons each week, something I thought would never happen again. Thanks Mobberley!( and Spice!)

Left In Tears

I just brought my daughter home in tears. I'll keep it short. She got scared, she told the teacher she was scared and that the horse was going too fast for her. The teacher's reply, and I quote, "canter!, CANTER!, Don't be silly!" this is while my daughter is on the horse and in tears!

The instructors at Mobberley Riding school are very volatile. One lesson they are sweet and smiling, the next they are ice queens. I was there, I always stay to watch the lessons. I wish I had it on video, you would see exactly what I mean. Last lesson, the same teacher was so encouraging and enthusiastic, this week however, one would think she was paying community service.

Moreover, after the ordeal, there wasn't an apology or explanation other than "we've all been through that, if you're going to get scared like that you might want to think about wether riding is for you". Talk about kicking her while she's down. Needless to say, her confidence is on the floor. Riding had brought such enthusiasm and joy to my eight year old; half an hour at Mobberley just killed it.

They said that if she had said "no, I absolutely do not want to do that" they wouldn't have pushed her. I'm sorry, but any well-behaved 8 year old girl is unlikely to say that. Having expressed her fear and asked to slow down should have been enough. In conclusion, if your child has it in him/her to turn around and say "no" to the adult instructing them, go ahead and sign them up. If not, then I advise you to look elsewhere. There are other riding schools in the area. We will try Cheshire Riding School.

Mobberley Riding School would like to respond to the above comments.

During a private lesson with the child's regular instructor, when asking for canter the pony misunderstood and remained in trot although quickened. The child became upset but the instructor was fully in control of the situation and dealing with it in the correct and safe manner.

However during the long discussion afterwards the mothers reaction to the situation and indeed to us became very concerning . We evidently were not going to resolve the issue or be able to meet her particular expectations.

All of us who ride or deal with horses are aware things dont always go as we desire but that is all part of the process of learning and the nature of horses in general. Sadly this mother didn't think so. We were happy to refund the money of further lessons booked in this instance.

Sidesaddle At Mobberley

My friends and I have been to Mobberley Riding School a couple of times for side-saddle lessons. We are all riders but had never done side saddle before. I was very impressed firstly with the facilities at Mobberley- there is a very good hot drinks machine and a well-stocked vending machine. The viewing gallery for the indoor school was also very nice.

I thought the lady who taught us side saddle was very good- she was friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. I did not have much interaction with the rest of the yard staff, but I would not say I was made to fell unwelcome as others have described.

The horses we had were very friendly and knew their job.

The one criticism I have is that it was sometimes hard to find someone to help us, sign us in etc. I would not return for a normal lesson as I don't think it is as good as my usual yard. However, for sidesadlle it is great, and well worth the money :)

Mobberley Riding School Is So Good!!!!

I have been going to mobberley for three years now and i have learned SO much. I now can jump!! The staff are so nice sometimes they might not be around but thats just because there so busy . There are lots of different levels of ponies and horses for beginners and experienced people. Also there are not just riding lessons there are side-saddle lessons! There's polo-cross and the pony club which i have just joined. I have learnt so much there and i would recommend it to anybody.

This was a dreadful riding school kept un tidy and messy, the ponies are dirty and full of mud and many accidents occur. A friend of ours moved to bank farm because they had had the boringest and unkindest lessons for two months.. Overall I would not reccomend this to anyone.

Nice Horses And Ponies, Knowledgeable Instructors.

I have been riding at Mobberley for three years and have learned so much in that time. I have a weekly lesson and also go and help out at the weekend and school holidays. There are lots of different types and personalities of horses to ride and even some of the slow ones go fast when they do polocrosse! I have read some of the other reviews on here, I think the staff are very friendly, the managers can seem a bit scary sometimes but you soon realise that they are just busy trying to keep the school running as smoothly as possible, there are a lot of ponies to look after! I am thinking about a career with horses and when I have asked them they have been very willing to talk about it and have have given me good advice. Overall, I think that Mobberley is a good place for anyone to ride, it would be good if they did more jumping lessons as my group lesson has some people who don't like jumping so I have to change lessons or book a private if I want to jump more but I feel that I have improved so much, I now have the confidence to ride pretty much any horse on the yard!

Good Ponies But Terrible Staff

Unapproachable, moody staff who don't appreciate that their customers are paying a lot of money for the lessons.

Useless stable hands who can't tack up correctly, so lessons are late starting while instructors sort things out.

Not enough help for instructors at beginning of lessons getting riders on promptly,so lessons are delayed again.

If you are paying for a 1 hour lesson, you should get 1 hour. Not 45 mins after all the faffing about.

Basically it's a very expensive place to ride and not worth the money, which is a great shame as the ponies and horses are wonderful. Shame the same can't be said for the awful staff !!

I agree, I got a very cold reception from the instructor. She seemed irritated by me, though I had been very honest about my capabilities as a rider (or lack of).

I felt snapped at and so many instructions were barked at me at once it was difficult to follow. I would much prefer it if we could have worked on one thing at a time.

The younger members of staff come across disinterested and rude also.

If I hadn't had a voucher I wouldn't have been back.
