My Dog, Who Is Treated For Fleas 5 Times A A Year,
My dog, who is treated for fleas 5 times a a year, and therefore "used" to flea products, had a HORRIBLE reaction to this flea treatment. My dog never had any bad reactions to Frontline or Advantage, but Panacur 3D is another story. Within 12 hours of application, my dog started itching like CRAZY at the application spots. But worse, 24 hours later, my dog started having panic attacks, panting horribly, acting extremely hyper active, scratching herself psychotically, etc. It was getting very scary. I bathed her to get the remaining Panacur 3d off of her immediately. I will NOT use this product again and I do NOT recommend Panacur 3D to anyone!

Worming Animals Isn't Always The Pleasantest Of Jo
Worming animals isn't always the pleasantest of jobs. Holding an animal down to force feed it a pill can be totally traumatic for both pet and owner, sometimes ending with bitten fingers (and worse) and pills spat into various corners - usually unbeknown to the owner who is quite happily unaware that the said pet remains unwormed!
Several years ago I started using Panacur as it came not only in tablet form but also in the form of granules that could be mixed with the food. It was, apparently tasteless (I didn't try it to find out) therefore the animal wasn't to know that it was there. I have used this with both dogs and cats and not had many problems - apart from the fact that sometimes food was left on the plate and there was no way of telling how much wormer was left with it.
It was around this time that Panacur produced "Favourites for Dogs" and also "Favourites for Cats". These are palatable tablets which can be fed like treats. The dog ones have a sort of meaty smell - much like any other dog treats and are quite soft - easily broken in half to get the correct dosage. What is more important - they work! I could quite easily feed my Border Collie the dose for a St. Bernard as he loves them so much. It is a relief to know that he has had the dose he needs without wondering if I should re-dose in a few days - just to make sure.
Uses: These tablets are for the treatment of adult dogs infected with gastro-intestinal roundworms and tapeworms, including Toxocara canis, Toxascaris leonine, Ancylostoma spp, Trichuris spp, Uncinaria spp and Taenia spp. For the treatment of weaned puppies infected with gastro-intestinal roundworms, particularly Toxocara canis, Ancylostoma spp, or puppies infected with protozoa Giardia spp. Now, I'm sure that that means about as much to you as it does to me but I thought I should put down the facts as shown on the box.
The dose can be administered either by adding it to the feed, prior to feeding or - as I did - offered as a treat immediately after feeding. For routine treatment of adult dogs the dose is half a tablet for each 5 kilos of bodyweight and this should be repeated two to four times per year. As the minimum dosage is for dogs over five kilos it should not be given to weaned or unweaned puppies weighing less that this. Further indications of treatment can, of course, be found on the packet.
The packets contain 4 tablets and cost £7.50. Each tablet contains 1000 mg Fenbendazole, Ph.Eur. They are not the type of medication that you can buy in supermarkets or every pet shop. I bought mine on-line from Vetmedic and was very pleased with the service.
I can only say that my dog thoroughly approves of Panacur Favourites for Dogs and has no objection to being wormed any time in the future. He is happy to recommend them to all his friends!
I hope that this will be of use to you and I thank you for reading.
Panacur is an excellent wormer, however they do fail too make it clear that it does not treat dipylidium caninum a tapeworm that is often carried in fleas. Fleas are often ingested by the dog and cat when they are washing themselves. That said worming your pet with any product is better than non at all!
