The Shar Pei Is A Dog Which Originated From China.
The Shar Pei is a dog which originated from China. Due to the fact that it is protective of its family, these dogs were used to guard the Chinese Royal family.
They were once listed in the Guinness World Records as being the world rarest dog. The breed also has a nickname or "Golden Lion".
However, these dogs are also used for fighting.
Shar Pei come in many colors: red (rose), sand, cream, black, and blue.
Overall, these dogs are very protective and loyal towards its family, and as such would make a great pet.
The breed history in this review is incorrect. These were not the dogs of royalty or the upper classes. The Shar Pei was the dog of the commoners....primarily farmers in Southern China. An all around dog that was used for guarding (against both predators and intruders), hunting, etc. During a few decades in the 1900s they were used some for dog fighting in China but were not ideal for this purpose. Recent research and genetic studies have identified this as the breed genetically closest to Canis Lupus (the Gray Wolf) with the Shiba Inu second closest genetically.
