The Eterna Downlight Converters Does What It Is Sp

The Eterna Downlight converters does what it is specified to do and it is constructed of sufficiently robust materials. It is reasonably easy to fit to the ceiling. It is helpful that both 240v (GU10) and 12v fittings are supplied.

There are some problems and limitations, though:

a) It is not well designed for low energy bulb use.

b) You have to clip it together on receipt. While this is not difficult it will take a few minutes to work out what is needed to do it. The instructions are neither awful, nor particularly clear.

c) You cannot swivel or point the downlighter. It points straight down only.

Today, we are all asked to use low energy bulbs. The low energy bulbs are generally bulkier than the older style bulbs. Modern electronic low energy dimmable 240v spotlight bulbs (e.g. Megaman Energy Saving GU10 Dimmerable 11 Watt GU10 Cap 830 Warm White 10K Hours) have long almost cylindrical housings that are nearly the full width of the 50mm spotlight hole.

The Eterna has metal arms that crowd in towards the hole where the light bulb sits. This prevents cylindrical bulb housings from being used.
