Carbon In Oxiclean Sets Some Stains

Carbon in OxiClean --sodium percarbonate-- can and does react with certain chemicals in the stain or its immediate environment, and permanently set the stain. Beware.

My husband got spag bol on his shirt,I got chocolate on my t-shirt and white cardigan,I pretreated the clothes with the spray and left for about 10 mins then washed in my usual detergent with a scoop of Oxiclean powder in the wash used a 40 degree wash, unforunately none of the stains came out completely,I have since washed them again and they are still faintly there.

Oxiclean - Third Time Lucky 5 Year Olds

Oxiclean - Third time lucky

5 YEAR OLDS AND CLEAN CLOTHES DO NOT MIX

Here's the situation, my 5 year old son adores spag bol and decided to decorate himself in it at lunchtime. I then forgot all about it when he came home that Friday unitl washing the school clothes load on Sunday. After putting the school jumper through the wash it looked as if I had forgotten to put the washing machine on. I got out my bottle of vanish spray and put the jumper through again expecting that to be the end of it, that was naive at the end of that wash it was just as bad.

So I went into town to find out what's on the market in the way of stain removers I came home with a bottle of Ace Bleach and some Oxiclean. I tried the Ace Bleach as it has had some success with other stains in the past. Not this time. As a last ditch attempt to save the jumper I tried Oxiclean.

ATTEMPT 1

I used the in-wash option you add one scoop of Oxiclean to your wash and it is supposed to whiten your whites and remove stains.

It didn't work

ATTEMPT 2

I decided after vaguely remembering a QVC demostration that Oxiclean can be more effective if used to soak clothes so I mixed a soloution in my mop bucket with the maximum reccomendation of 4 scoops to 4 litres. I also left it for the maximum time 6 hours: RESULT the spag bol stain has gone.

FOR THE RECORD

There was also an ink stain on the top that didn't come out I will add to this review as I test it for more stains.

COST

I paid just under £4 and according to the tub I should get 16 scoops for that. Which is reasonable considering it saved me buying a new £10 school jumper. The scoop was provided with the pack.

CAUTIONS

Oxiclean is irritating to eyes, respiratory system and skin as it contains Sodium Carbonate peroxide so take the following precautions:

Be careful when adding powder to water not to breath dust

Wear gloves when removing articles from soaking solution

If you do get some on your skin wash with plenty of water

NOTE FOR SENSITIVE SKIN

I personally would recommend running your soaked garment in a plain water quickwash to remove any traces of solution as I feel the solution does seem to remain in the fabric even after a machine wash as clothes feel slightly different.
