Luxury To Sleep On

Naturewarm's wool bedtopper is packed full of luxurious British wool. Ikea introduced me to bedtoppers, when I was tempted in the shop by the extravagant idea of having a mattress and putting another mattress on top! The idea works of course, you have a firm base and then something softer to mould to the shape of the body. The number of memory foam toppers on sale today suggests its popular. But I also remember a wool underblanket I used to have, which was somehow comfy but dry and warm, whereas foam toppers have a more spongy surface feel. Having bought a latex mattress with polyester cover layer I wanted a natural fibre topper to help moisture to breathe away from the bed surface.

Having had this combination for a month I can say it is fantastic. The latex is firm and supportive, but the wool adds a whole dimension of comfort and luxury. The topper is a nice balance of thickness 800g/sq.m. and firmness. Its quilted in wide strips which I like. Many alternatives are quilted in squares which may be good for stabilising the wool material but look as though they increase the chances of being noticeable through the sheet. The wool is warm, ideal for the British winter, giving a feeling of support and warmth to the body. Hopefully in summer it will as many people say, be surprisingly cool in warm weather. And its washable and easy to dry, especially compared to foam, which is essential for a practical topper. And its British wool too!
