Nothing 'specialist' About This Guy.
We used B.W Lewis Specialist Builders to build our kitchen extension. They were not the cheapest - we used them because Barry Lewis the owner seemed very helpful before he started the work - recommending things and coming up with ideas. He came recommended to us from a previous neighbour.
After the work started it was a different story. We never saw him and he left his workment to get on with it. He was never around to discuss anything. This led to lots of mistakes. He runs around 3 jobs at a time, so he was concentrating elsewhere.
Many of the mistakes were made by his electrician who put sockets and spot lights in the wrong place, so that our work top areas are dark. Everything was done in a way that was quick and easy for them, rather than what was best for us.
They also fitted 16, 240watt spot lights instead of using low wattage spots - this means that the bulbs do not last as long. We now have bulbs that blow every week, because there are so many of them. The electrician wired all the spotlights to one switch, instead of discussing options to have half of the 16 spot lights on.
His plumber also did everything on the cheap. He failed to fit a radiatior to our cloakroom (leaving us with additional expense of fitting this ourselves, even though the cost had been included in the quote). The radiator he did fit to our new kitchen was clearly a second grade quality, because it is bent. We had many leaking pipes into the new ceiling of the kitchen and in our garage.
This builder also underquoted for the work and tried to charge us for lots of additional things at the end of the build.
The grand finale was that B.W Lewis decided to hold back our electrical certificate in order to get some extra money from us. We obviously needed this to have our extension signed off by planning. We reported him and his electrican to the NICEIC, who were able to recover the certificate from him.
In short, avoid this builder. We were duped into thinking he is conscientious builder, but really he is a talker who tries to take you for a fool.
I would just like to respond to this review, obviously this is your opinion and I respect that, but I would like to offer an alternative.
The owner and his builders are at present working on a large ground floor extension on my house and I honestly could not rate them high enough. Yes he has about 3 jobs on the go, but he is at my house every morning and every evening and is available to talk on the phone whenever I need him. He clearly instructs his guys about what needs to be done, as so far I have no complaints what so ever! Don't get me wrong no build is without its problems, and for my part it's always roof, but the team have worked tirelessly to resolve this issues and he is not happy until he is 100% sure that the problem has been fixed and we are happy. Althought he does not do all the building work himself he is on Han to get his hands dirty when called for!
We have has a number of workers on our build but all of them have been doing a first class job. I would highly recommend the owner and his team!
I appreciate that this is not everyone's view but I wanted to put my response on here as felt it was unjust in terms of the work he has carried out I my house.
