Poor Customer Service, Try To Ignore Issues

Bought a property in weldon. No top soil provided by FJH. Used their clixfix reporting portal. Said the site foreman would contact me. He did , by text and said he would come round with the landscaper. They never materialised. Clixfix said they were closing the report as the foreman said that the grass would not have taken if tgere was no soil. I sent them pictures of the grass ( which had not taken) and picture of what was under the turf. Just clay and a fine layer of sharp sand. No response from FJH. Absolutely useless

The Delorean Of House Builders - Good Materials Used Poorly

I generally encourage positive reviews where possible but likewise I think when something is wrong it also needs to be shared especially when resolution of short coming.

We purchased our new home towards the end of 2020 from Francis Jackson Homes, who had a reputation for building good quality homes in small numbers where time and care are taken.....fast forwards to the here and now and they seem to be a builder who lives on a reputation firmly in the past. It seems to be run by people who have the ideas but cannot execute them with conviction, leaving the finished homes looking OK as long as you don't look too closely.

Each home has a "Directors Inspection", which sounds great if this actually meant something. You would expect this to be, along with periodic inspections by building control during the build process, a seal of quality that the builder himself would be proud of. Within 2 weeks of moving in it was apparent this inspection was little more than a quick once over and nothing like what it sounds like. I am not a builder, far from it, but I know what is right or wrong and the list of "wrong" it quite extensive.

From damaged kitchen doors, paint on carpets and flooring, scratched floor tiles, split internal doors, damaged door handles, leaky chimney, damaged windows (glass and frames), windows you cannot leave open as parts missing, noisy plumbing, noisy floor boards, damaged bathrooms (bath, shower trays, sinks), badly plastered and painted surfaces, missing lead work, broken garage door, weak mortar joints....the list does actually go on.

The slight positive here is that they are working through the list of "wrongs" but very, very slowly and only some of these items are deemed as faults by them!! Each of the trades I have met that have come back to the house seem good but they all had one thing in common, the all criticised other trades and specification of what they had to use.

Ours was one of the more expensive houses on the development, so cost is no guarantee of quality, we have found. Whilst no one likes criticism it seems the more you find wrong the less they are likely to listen. They need to take it on board and actually turn this into a positive by learning from it.....none of the faults and issues would cost more to prevent than than they will to fix, in fact they should cost nothing if fitted properly and care taken to begin with. It seems like inexperience, rather than decades of experience, had made this development barely average. They have used some good quality items that are on show but they have been assembled quite poorly in quite a lot of places.

I would NOT buy another of their houses, this is our 4th house and first (and likely last) new build over 25 years and it has to be one of the most disappointing....if this is representative of the current UK building game then we, and future generations, are in real trouble.

I fully expected some snags and settlement issues on a new build but I can see this will end up costing me a reasonable sum of money to rectify, so, if you are planning to buy a Francis Jackson Home, ensure you have a contingency fund and access to decent tradespeople or simply stop and look elsewhere first.

The shame about reviews is that most people cannot be bothered to make one (good or bad) so with smaller sales like these the true picture is often never seen.

Disgraceful

Mr Turpin the highest man, has nothing on Francis Jackson homes, they promise a five star house build and after service , prior to exchange and definitely do not deliver.

We purchased our home in 2018 and have nothing but issues with what they class as quality products .

We were sold the dream of high quality construction with state of the art fittings by the MD himself all I can say is if his companies after service was as good as his sales techniques I wouldn’t be writing such a negative review, in fact his after sales staff are damn right rude and are certainly continuing to cause the company harm.

We have had issues with the heating system, plumbing, windows leaking , garage not watertight, scratches all over the flooring, kitchen cupboards , cracked tiles , loose slabs etc etc the list is never ending , steer clear you have been warned.

Heating System

I would recommend any potential buyer to check current developments and randomly speak with home owners regarding the quality of fittings to plumbing systems

We have experienced several leaks from poor quality plastic fittings and causing devastating damage to our home

Misleading And Not To Be Trusted

This is my fourth house purchase and the first of a new build. We read up on the companies reputation and were impressed... how wrong we were!

The property looks beautiful and stylish with a high level of fixtures but the finish has been poor in all the houses on our development,2 of our neighbours have had terrible leaks from their roofs.

Several verbal descriptions of the standard fitments were denied after purchase and I was all but called a liar by several FJ employees when I repeated that they had informed me I would get an induction hob and didnt. This has proved dangerous as the hob is on an island and children can easily touch it when it is on! The cooker hood is so low I bang my head on it almost daily, the site manager told us that it was at this height due to regulations and couldnt be moved.......this is not so.

The bath overflow was not connected, the ties for the guttering have been screwed in too tightly and have broken, the garage does not keep dry in any way and our items get damp( this FJ say is due to the wet winter and that garages are single skin... but we have never had mould growing on items in previous garages!)The paint is already coming off the exterior windows and doors. Two of the windows leak and we have problems with the security system and the heating.

Would I buy another FJ house.... NO!

Dreadful

The staff pre purchase could not do enough. Efficient and friendly. Boy, if only we had known that customer service AFTER purchase was going to be so bad we would have run in the opposite direction.

There were so many issues I couldn't begin to list them all. Suffice to say, numerous visits from tradesmen to fix what should have been correct in the 1st place. I understand that there will be issues with any new build but 6 or 7 visits with much head scratching to fix just one issue!

Actually getting them to turn up would be a start. Very much a mañana attitude. On several occasions I had waited in for no one to turn up and that was after chasing time and time again. Taking time off work is infuriating when no one bothers turning up!!!

Unfortunately this company seems to have no idea what professionalism and customer service is. They employ contractors that they know fall short of the mark when it comes to quality. This may be due to keeping the overheads down...I don't know and can't say why.

I wouldn't normally write reviews but on hearing some of the complaints of many other purchasers, I felt compelled to do so. It seems that this company had a very good reputation for quality not that long ago but are appalling now. A real shame that they have become so complacent.

In short the reputation this company had for quality is long gone. They are complacent and even arrogant. Don't be taken in by what is promised pre exchange. If you do you will be sorely disappointed.
