Crown Non Drip Satin Finish Paint--useless

As a previous writer says--it's like painting with clotted cream. Worst of all--the Finish or really--the lack of it. Just very un-smooth and streaky. will have to sand down and use a different make. Didn't like Dulux either as last time I used it it went yellow--so no confidence in Dulux. Another negative. The can--metal--also useless. Rusts around the internal side of the lid. Next time one comes to use it the loose rust falls in the piant--GREAT. I will never buy paint in a tin again only a plastic tub.

Do Not Buy

In this time of lockdown i decided to decorate the hallway of our apartment. For the woodwork including 7 doors i chose to use Crown non drip satin for interiors. BIG BIG MISTAKE. Prepared everything well, sanding, washing down with sugar soap etc. as i always do.

Applied the paint to the skirtings & frames all seemed fine, when it came to the doors they looked good until a day or so later when the paint started to appear to have a few fine dust particles on them. When you touch them they either drop on to floor or lift the paint work in a way you can peel it off the door in strips.

The finish is SOFT & CERTAINLY NOT DURABLE, every day since, we have seen different marks appear on doors that are not permanently open. We are afraid to touch doors that have regular use.

Our only option is the unenviable task of stripping the paint off & starting over again this time not using Crown Paint.

Wished i had read the reviews on this product before hand.

Public Warning

With 30 years' house-painting experience I feel it is my public duty to state that this is the worst wood paint I have ever used. It is like trying to paint with clotted cream. It does not flow well off the brush and leaves a lumpy finish with poor coverage. After applying 4 coats of this on the same woodwork in an effort to obtain a decent finish, I am on the verge of psychosis.

Worst Paint Ever

Just finished decorating hall and living room using this paint on doors and skirting boards. Noticed two or three places on the door and door frame where paint had come off. Rubbed gently and to my horror paint started peeling off! Just when I thought we had finished need to start all over. Like other reviewers wished I had read reviews before wasting all my time and money. DO NOT USE THIS PAINT!

Waste Of Time And Effort

Like other reviewers I am amazed that Crown are still selling this product.I washed and sanded all surfaces before using this paint only to find,as many others have, that the paint is certainly NOT durable as it soon starts to peel off at the slightest touch, On one door I was able to peel it off in large strips by hand. It looks likely that all my hard work and effort was a waste of time as I shall have to repaint everywhere. How I wish I had seen these reviews before wasting my money on this sub-standard product.

Crown Paints - Take Note...reputation Is Everything!

I've used Crown paints for years and have always found them to be of excellent quality, so much so that I always recommend Crown to friends. However, as a perfectionist and in an effort to keep my hall doors brilliant white I opted to switch from Solo to their 'Water Based Satin'. Big, big costly mistake that has driven us to to the depths of despair! Let me explain more...from the minute I started to paint it was obvious that this paint is not fit for purpose. The coverage was poor and it was impossible to avoid leaving scratchy brushmarks. With my never be beaten attitude I plodded on and after 3 coats and 2 weeks of work the finish didn't look too bad. My state of achievement was short lived though as almost immediately the paint started to scratch/flake. We are 2 pensioners who take great pride in our home so we knew this was not wear and tear, it was as stated previously the paint is not fit for purpose. We are absolutely furious that a company such as Crown, a company that I trusted would allow such a poor quality product to be released to market without testing it's application and durability qualities. We are now in the process of sanding the doors again and urge Crown to take this paint off the shelves before other customers are hoodwinked into thinking there is a short route to painting perfection/satisfaction.

it 2020 and I have mostly used Crown Paints and this is soul destroying. Crown Stays White Quick dry Satin. As per other users, the paint seems to lift where your work overlaps. I have tried 3 different quality brushes, no difference. I have come to the conclusion that this paint should be poured on for a fine finish. I have never put on two undercoats, rubbed down then applied THREE coats of this paint and STILL not been happy. As you say this paint is not fit for purpose.

To add to my review...this is day 2 of sanding first door. It is so time consuming and effort driven that we are working is shifts. We have tried various methods and we have just discovered that a glass scraper is bringing the paint off in sheets. Thought we would share that tip with the rest of Crown's unhappy customers.

Trading Standards Take Note - Crown Paints

Carpet fitters just putting down new carpet in newly decorated room. I spent hours doing this room and for the first time used Crown Stays White Quick Dry Satin on the skirting board, sanding before application as per directions on the tin - previous Dulux Satinwood goes yellow. Putting down the new carpet has taken off all the paint on the skirting board - I am in tears! I shall now have to sand off every TINY bit of paint and do it all again - plus I now have added problem of getting paint on new carpet!

On the tin it states that it is 'tough and durable' this it most certainly isn't. Wish I had read a review about this paint before buying it. I've always used oil based paints before but you can't get them these days!

DON'T BUY THIS PAINT IT IS ABSOLUTE RUBBISH

Never Ever Use This Paint

I am just gutted at the mess this has made of my woodwork. Weeks of preparation have been ruined by this "substance" (you can't call it paint). I burnt off all the old paint, sanded and primed the wood and this Satinwood simply scrapes off at the slightest touch, and if you use a damp cloth it just flakes away. I wish I could afford to sue Crown Paints. I also wish I had read the reviews before buying the horrible stuff. Never again!

Nearly Impossible To Get A Smooth Finish

Purchased from B&Q. I have been doing up houses for over forty years. I know what is good paint.

Crown have done the right thing and are sending me a voucher. BIG DEAL !

B&Q were hopeless and would not give a refund. Absolutely disgusting !!

Would not recommend B&Q the way they handled my complaint or rather the way can DID NOT handle my complaint.

Could not recommend Crown water based non drip satin. Get an oil based paint every time.
