Quicksilver 5160
Mine has been good over 10 years or so. No problem with height of cut as some have suggested. And, I do sharpen the blade regularly so it cuts grass properly. The large rear wheels make it especially good for rough areas such as paddocks.
My main criticism is that the track of the front wheels is less than that of the rear - it makes judging corners and bends difficult. I have replaced belts (pulley driving the g/box is a pig to re-connect, but possible on DIY basis)and oil, and left it over winters untouched. The engine always starts easily; the machine is a doddle to control. It's not perfect, but it was cheap (compared to others) - you get what you pay for.

Happy With Mine
Wow, some harsh comments here, but I have been happy with my Quicksilver 5160HW. I have mown about half an acre of lawns for the last 3 years, although not as often as I should. OTOH, because of that, the grass is sometimes very long (6"-8") and tough so the mower has had some really hard work to do. The Briggss and Stratton engine starts easy and is just reliable, reliable ..
Someone said : "Having finally got the thing together and working". Some sarcasm detected there, but you take your choice - either buy it cheap in a carton from Homebase etc and assemble it yourself, or buy it dear from a small dealer who will assemble it, check it and deliver. That goes for any make.
Someone said : "from I found it as useful as a chocolate fireguard". Amusing meme, but what exactly was the problem? Some here said it cuts too high. But this is a big mower for big lawns that don't need bowling green finishes. I don't even use the lowest notch, but the second or third. One of my lawns has suffered moles so much that under the grass it is like the surface of the moon. Another area is so rough I could do with 4-wheel drive. To me, saying the cut is not low enough is a bad joke. Horses for courses.
Someone else rated it expensive; but I paid under £200, half the price of a McCulloch or Qualcast.
After 2 Years Of Ownership The Gearbox On My Flymo
After 2 years of ownership the gearbox on my Flymo Quicksilver 5160HW has broken and the drive wheels have seized. I am faced with a bill of £150.00 but I think I might scrap it because I don't think it's up to the job. We have a sloping lawn about 40 yards square. The wheel height setting keeps slipping as well, meaning that it's impossible to set and keep at the correct cutting height.

I Thought What A Great Machine Until I Started To
I thought what a great machine until I started to cut my lawn with the
Flymo Quicksilver 5160HW and realised that it was not much shorter than when I started. Six height settings but the lowest setting was way too high. Took mine back to Homebase and got my money back. Smaller wheels would sort the problem, unbelievable!
I found mine cut low enough for me, but looking at the mower, your problem could be solved easily by making another slot in the height adjusting quadrant. I don't know why Flymo did not have this - it's a poor design detail. I would make a new slot in half an hour if I needed to, but then I have the tools.
The smaller wheels idea (suggestion from Homebase?) is just silly.

I Concur Totally With Andy Sedd On The Flymo Quick
I concur totally with Andy Sedd on the Flymo Quicksilver 5160HW . Having finally got the thing together and working, I found it as useful as a chocolate fireguard. It took several go's to get my money back, but that was the best thing to do with this lump of ironmongery. Decorative it might be, but practical it most certainly is not. Don't buy under any circumstances.
Hi, you know your review would have been much more useful if you had described the problem. Like engine would not start? Engine started but would not turn the blades? Engine started but would not go along? Went along but would not cut the grass? Honestly, people need to know.
I am guessing from the others' reviews that you also found the blades would not cut low enough for you, which would have been fair comment, but in itself your review is not much use (like a chocolate fireguard itself ;-).

I Got This Mower Home And Found The Instructions T
I got this mower home and found the instructions to be useless straight away but with common sense it was quite simple to erect. Oil and fuel in and off we go - straight away! The engine is brilliant (B+S) Only problem is - IT DOESN'T CUT. Even on the lowest settings it looked like i'd rolled over it and not cut it. With a name like Flymo you'd expect it to be descent but it's not.
I got my money back from Homebase without a problem and went to another DIY store and got a far superior mower for the same price.

The Flymo Quicksilver 5160hw Is A Well Priced Prod
The Flymo Quicksilver 5160HW is a well priced product that at first glance looks the business. But oh dear how I was hood-winked. What's the use of a lawnmower that cannot cut low enough? Complained to Flymo and they simply said it was the design and that they couldn't so anything about it. They suggested I took it back (Homebase) and ask for a refund or exchange.
Took it back to Homebase who were absolutely wonderful. Not a moment's hesitation to a full refund and, remember, this was now a used machine and no packing case. What a truly great experience - just such a shame that it was necessary in the first place. Thank you HOMEBASE.
