This Tivoli 65 Was Bought As A Present For Me From
This Tivoli 65 was bought as a present for me from Argos in 2008.It is the same as the 63 sold elsewhere.The Machine was always difficult to start and then after 18 months of modest use stopped altogether. A strip down by my local garden machinary mechanic revealed that the integral key in the flywheel had broken off needing a complete new flywheel to repair it. My local mechanic told me that most other manufactureres use a seperate key and they only cost a couple of quid to replace.
In my view this product in not fit for purpose.The original flywheel is clearly made of very inferior metal and is not up to the job. Anyone with starting problems on any McCulloch machine probably have the same defective flywheel.
I would advise anyone to steer clear of McCulloch, their products are made by cheap labour in Italy and Argos just abdicate their liability.
Dave Burrows, your one star rating is too high. Had exactly the same experience. Always difficult to start and after two hours of running time, it packed up completely. Took it to my local McCulloch repair shop (The Workshop at Chislehurst).They charge a minimum of £30 and let you know before doing it if it is likely to be more. Ballpark figure for average repairs apparently £45. Took them four weeks to decide it was the flywheel which they said would cost £95 to replace. Told them to let me have it back, as the repair was going to be near the cost of a new one. So another £30 down the drain! I will definitely steer clear of McCulloch products from now on.
