Buy Another Strimmer

I bought this from B&Q and thought that it would be a good purchase. After many attempts to try to get the thing going, I gave up and took it back to B&Q who agreed to change it for a similar model. Now, I am not an novice to engines being an engineer and having repaired cars, motorcycles and aircraft for most of my life. This fact was also explained to B&Q before they agreed to the exchange. The replacement strimmer also failed to start, the only way to get it going was by removing the spark plug and pouring a little fuel mix into the cylinder head but alas this only lasted for a few cuts/weeks. The strimmer now sits at the back of the garage and was replaced by a more reputable brand. My advice, stay clear.

Not To Shabby

One thing this cheap homelite really needs is commericial grade trimming line otherwise the line they give you will break every 5seconds.

Have cut quite a few tall lawns with my homelite with no problems

Homelite Htl26cd Mighty-lite Trimmer

Purchased from B&Q. Whilst having no undue starting or running problems, like other reviewers I found it had a badly designed head angle, needing to hold the thing up high - until I used a pipe bender to increase the shaft angle to increase the curve, no more back ache!

It's main failing (and this also applies to a second example given to me by it's frustrated owner) is the pull string jamming after a while. I dismantled both units to find the Heavy coil spring which transfers the pull from spool to motor ratchet bends from the 90 Degree set, so rides out of the location in the black plastic connecting piece and jams the spool.

I managed (with difficulty, using vice, hammer& expletives) to restore this angle, but the only cure was to replace both spring and connecting bit.

I emailed Homelite H.O. to see if there was a mod. USA said ask Europe, Europe did not bother to reply. My opinion, modify it's Mighty-Lite model name by replacing the 'L' with 'Sh'.

I PURCHASED A HOMELITE HLT26CDNB FROM BUNNINGS QLD AUS,I HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH IT RIGHT FROM THE BEGINING,IT IS HARD TO START,TRIMMER LINE KEEPS ON BREAKING,WILL NOT BUMP FEED,WHEN IT DOES START IT STOPS AFTER A FEW MINUTES,IF I HOLD IT AT THE ANGLE SUGGESTED BY THE MANUAL,MY ARM GETS BURNT ,AND ACHES,THIS WOULD BE THE WORST TRIMMER I HAVE EVER PURCHASED,IN OVER 40 YEARS

Homelite Hlt26cd Petrol Strimmer

Purchased this useless bit of machinery from b&q, wish i hadn't bothered.

Wont start, it's an absolute pig.

When i did manage to start it once or twice for about 10 minutes, the strimming cord breaks, and once machine is hot it wont start again.

It's now sitting in garage with the pull cord hanging out of it.

Look on E-Bay, selling for the same reason.

Rubbish dont buy one.

Carol.

Purchased from B&Q - This Homelite strimmer is absolute rubbish, the head angle would only suit anyone over 7ft tall. I took it back to B&Q and offered to buy a more expensive brushcutter/strimmer in exchange but they did not except and would not refund, even though iten was considered 'not fit for purpose' it it a pig to 'hot start' and in the end the whole of the plastic head assembly melted due to heat generated by the friction of the drive wire inside the hollow shaft head radius. Don't buy a strimmer unless the store has staff who have used and know about what they sell.

If you follow instructions correctly, (mix the fuel/oil correctly & prime the carb) this strimmer is very good and easy to start. Quite powerfull, dont know where the person below is going wrong sayin grass stops it. Im guessing they are leaving the choke on!! Had two of these now as I broke the pull cord on my last one being over enthusiastic starting it. would definatly recommend too a friend.

The overwhelming feedback from owners of these things is that they are a piece of poo. We bought one here in Australia some time ago. On the rare occasions that it starts, it gets about 10 minutes use per month. It is literally in "as new condition" as a consequence of not starting or running. Do I know what I am doing. well let's ponder that for a moment. Our 2 stroke Yamaha outboard motor starts reliably every time (and we mix the fuel), the 2 Stihl Chainsaws we have start reliably and easily every time (again I mix the fuel), the Stihl Line Trimmer we bought to replace the afforementioned Homelite piece of poo also starts easily and reliably (yes, again I mix the fuel). In light of the innumerable complaints from people all over the world regarding difficulties starting and running the HLT26CD(NB), I just wonder if the machine might be a dud. Perhaps not, maybe we are all mixing the fuel incorrectly or leaving the choke on, but by some remarkable coincidence, not making the same mistake with our other 2 stroke machinery.
