I've Enjoyed Toast For As Long As I Can Remember R

I've enjoyed toast for as long as I can remember really!

I think my mam started to give me toast when I was a baby.

It's been a real culinary staple in my home.

I remember way back, to them days when toast was cooked on a gas grill and your mam would only toast one side because she thought the 50p she put in the meter yesterday might go!

So for the majority of my formative years I enjoyed toast cooked on one side with a preferred topping of margarine or jam or margarine. Hmmmmm delicious.

Then the electric toaster became increasingly popular, obviously toast was now cooked on both sides, this certainly was a new fangled concept in my house! I reckon everyone adapted to toast cooked doubled sided with no real problems,

To be honest the automatic pop-up feature of the electric toaster meant you could perhaps boil an egg or make a cuppa without having to 'stand-over' the previous conventional method of keeping an eye on the toast under the grill.

Toast is without doubt a great option for diners on a budget. In my opinion bread that is a day or two old makes even more delicious toast. So you can use supermarkets 'own brand' bread for your toast, though you wouldn't neccesarily agree that this own brand bread makes for a great sandwich.

I think it's the versatility of toast that makes it so popular. You can pour over some warmed up baked beans for a delicious snack. Whip up some fluffly scrambled egg, the combinations really are endless!

The only downside of the electric toaster for me is that it takes toasties out of the equation, if you want to enjoy a delicious hot toastie you need to grill your toast fully on one side, flip over, lightly toast the otherside and then apply your topping something like cheese and tomato with say a splash of Worcestershire sauce, if you like the freedom that electric can provide you can invest in a Breville machine which will magically seal and heat your toastie for you rather than watching over the gas grill.

I would wholeheartedly recommend toast to anyone, it great as a quick and delicious snack to be enjoyed all year round, it wont break the bank and you don't need any of the more obscure ingredients for recipes that you see on shows like Ready Steady Cook. When using cooking apparatus, heat and sharp implements please be careful during the food prepartion process.

with the benefit of hindsight my 3 star rating does appear a little harsh, not sure what I was scoring against if that makes sense?,

beacause though I do enjoy toast, I do enjoy other foodstuffs more

I Find Nothing Better Than A Couple Slices Of Ligh

I find nothing better than a couple slices of lightly burnt bread topped with soft, melting butter, whether it be first thing in the morning, or last thing at night. Preferably both. "Toast", as it is commonly known, works well with so many different toppings, from the standard Anchor Butter to more exotic spreads like Nutella or jam.

More experienced users can progress to advanced version such as Melba Toast or even "Toasties".

Melba Toast is simply re-toasting the bread after an initial burst of heat, and slicing it lengthwise into very thin, very crispy slices. This is best served with Pat .

Toasties can be made using a Toastie Maker (or Breville) which can be found in the Electrical Appliances section of this site.

Standard Toast can be sliced into thin strips to become "Little Soldiers" that are usually found with a soft boiled egg. This dish can be very popular with young (and grown-up) kids so take note!

I'm hungry now... anyone for a round of toast?
