Michelob Ultra

Michelob Ultra - Highly Recommend! Especially for fitness minded peeps

I've never cared for beer but I like this one very much.

Michelob Ultra is basically a low calorie beer which is branded as low Carb with less sugar content.

It is a nicely packaged product but comes in smaller bottles; around 275ml a piece.

Basically, this means that you read the nutritional info on the bottle and think your getting a good deal. What you actually get is a moderately healthier drink but in a smaller portion, equalling lower calories per bottle.

Once you empty two bottles to fill your pint pot, you are met with quite a light coloured lager which lacks any real odour. It is somewhat over-carbonated though, and fizzes away in the glass like something in a mad scientists lab.

The actual flavour is only just noticeable. It's almost like a watered down Fosters or Budweiser. There's no mistaking its American roots and there is, as ever, that muted woody edge to the flavour. This adds some character to the drink, but it does not save it from being a rather dull, obscure tipple.

I'm sure it will sell to those looking to lose weight, but so marginal is the difference between this product and standard beer, from a health perspective, that you're probably better off with a normal beer drank in moderation.

Bear in mind that Michelob Ultra comes in 10 packs, with each bottle containing around 1/2 pint, it's not difficult to see that less is more. Don't get me wrong, I've drank a few of these and did not overly object to the experience, but to try and invigorate an average product via the health route is a little indulgent and cynical of Michelob.

Maybe if it tasted of something I'd be convinced.
