Irwin Vice Grips are the best vise-grip tool. Get an American made one now while there are a few around. Apparently Irwin is moving their manufacture to China.

Irwin Are, Apparently, The World Leaders In "vice

Irwin are, apparently, the world leaders in "Vice grips" or "Mole grips" as they used to be known. Snap-on current stock them as their premier range and come with soft grip handle sleeves. There is an aperture for a hex key in the head of the (knurled bolt) adjuster, but I have no idea why it would need one.I use these as grips for stud, bolt & nut removal (a destructive process that ruins the fastener). I also use them as clamps for work holding (metalwork) and sometimes when the application suits; fabrication & assembly work. The pliers are comfortable and do not pinch the hand when closed. They are sturdy and well made. The jaws are hard enough to bite into most metals and although there is a bit of sideways play in the child jaw, considering the tool's application, seems negligible. Precision work has never been one of these tool's strong points!IMHO; It's not worth compromising on a tool like this; I have used the cheap ones. When they are made well they are a genuine asset, when they are not made well they can make more problems, and work, than they solve. These Irwin Vice Grips are good.Well done Irwin!
