for everyone make sure this goes around, never get a membership there as they are just a band crocks, I paid to cancel my membership in October and even talked to a manager that told me everything was close and now, 6 month they are asking me to pay a big amount of money for a membership that I cancelled 6 month ago and a gym that I haven't even put a feet in it so be aware its better to pay a little bit more for a good gym than going somewhere where all they want is your money with a rubbish and inexistant customer services advice for people who are thinking about joining this gym, DON'T!!!!!

Took out a 12 month contract at the leeds gym for £10 per month. At the time was told if my circumstances change it was really easy to get out of, with no mention of any fees. Was also told that the Leeds South gym was opening in the next 2 to 3 months and would be opening on a site next to the whiterose centre, which was the deciding factor for me to take out the contract as its closer to my house and I could move my existing contract to that gym. To cut a long story short this was all just a lies to persuade me to signing into the contract, which I didn't found out until 6 months into the contract when my circumstances had changed and I tried to cancel. I was told that I would have to pay a buy out fee and the customer service was awful. No consideration of my individual circumstances, long response times and they chose to ignore my complaint about the misinformation I was given to persuade me into the contract. When I pointed this out I was made to feel like a liar as I was told basically that all the staff are fully trained and wouldn't tell me that the leeds south was opening in a time period and at a location as they are not given those details. I reiterated that I want to complain about the member of staff who signed me up, they said I needed to provide a name. (As if I would remember from 6 months ago!?!) I know they would have details of the person I signed up with as the staff work on bonuses and commission they just chose to purposely be unhelpful. Beware of these people as you are just a number to them, the gym isn't much with not a lot of parking and dripping ventilation systems. There seems to be nothing I can do except pay up the buy out fee as dealing withe head office staff is like hitting your head against a brick wall. They will be disappearing in few years mark my words, a business cannot survive without customers. Word of mouth is a powerful thing.

I joined Xercise4Less in November 2012. I didn't use my membership so decided to cancel my DD following my final payment of a twelve month contract. Since this I have been hounded by Harlands and CRS via phone and text, even being threatened with Bailiffs by text. I have proved to all concerned that I made 12 payments, that I haven't used the gym and could not understand why they insisted I owe them £221.43, considerably more than the £14.99 per month fee originally agreed. The gym and their debt collectors insisted I started a new contract in June 2013. Why would I do so? I still had 6 months left on my original contract and I wasn't using the gym. I asked for proof of my agreement to the new contact, which could not be provided and continued to be hounded for payment. Eventually CRS agreed to close the case if I paid 3 months at £14.99. I reluctantly paid as I was becoming very stressed by the whole situation. Xercise4Less advertise low prices etc... But beware!

Horrible place, cant cancel your membership due to contract you supposed to recieve by email, which we never did. Harassing you with emails and texts. Awfull , wish never join it from the start. There is a catch wirh their paper work , about 12 month contract. Dont ever join it!!!!!!!!!

Hi,
I work in Head Office for Xercise4Less, sorry to hear about your experience. If you'd like to discuss it please feel free to email me with details of what happened and I'll look into this for you.
Kind regards,
Leslie

There can't be a legally enforceable contract regarding membership length or cancelation penalties because there isn't an express contract in place which outlines the terms. The only contract that can exist is an implied one - e.g. the gym bills you every month in return for you accessing the gym and using the facilities.
I'd just tell the gym you no longer wish to use the facilities and then cancel your direct debit and ignore all communication from Harlands. They cannot enforce anything. If the communication gets out of hand then I'd simply report them for harassment.

Well thats exactly what we did, since october 2013 visited gym once, didnt like it from the start, the way its been done etc. Was still paying for another 3 month without going thinking i will have another go or think about it. Cancelled direct debit in February , thats when all phone calls started saying we have contact by email. Started to say we will be reported to Harlands and they will prosecute for all debts. So avoiding all that we had to pay 35 pounds to terminate contact we never thought we have from the start. Gym representative was sitting down for weeks in another gym we used to go and was promoting exercise for less as a new low cost gym coming to town. Never mantion any paper work or cooling off period when you can still cancel it. So my main alert is that they should be more thinking of customers awareness of terms and conditions instead of harassing you and then start talking about your contact. Customers should be informed from day one about all this

I second that, i was a personal trainer at xercise4less and completely done me over and management didnt have a clue what they was doing, attempted to contact the guy i needed to speak to at head office and always got fobbed off and lost my business and all my clients wanted to cancel because of this and change gym and they wouldnt let them same again due to contract! Wouldnt recommend this place as they only care about money and nothing and no one else!!!!!!

i had a pretty good year at Xercise4Less but when i decided to leave is when the bad service started to happen. i turned up one day i couldnt get into the gym, i was told my contract had expired and that i would need to renew at a higer rate if i wanted to continue using the gym. I decided against it. now 10 months later im getting threatening letters from HARLANDS who manage their finaces. apparently my direct debit has failed for the last 2 months. I contacted them telling them i no longer went to that gym because my contract had ended. and questionned why they had been taking the money out of my account since march. I then contact the 'lovely' people at the leeds branch and was informed that I must be mistaken and they will not be refunding the money owed to me. And although they are not in the wrong, they will ensure that there is no more contact from HARLANDS. Apparently to cancel my contract i need to send them a letter, i didnt want to cancel my contract, i was informed by them that it had ended yet they still refuse to pay the money they have wrongfully taken from my account since THEY ended my gym membership. this place is not bad for the money, but dont you dare leave and join a more well equipped gym as they will try and rip you off. guess its my fault for not checking my bank statements sooner but some of the worst customer service i have experienced. Keep my £60, i dont need it. but trust me, it will cost you more in the long run!!

i didnt notify you because you notified me that my membership had ended...

I am disgusted with this outfit, I joined along with my wife and son on the basis it was pay as you go by DD, no hassle if you wanted to cancel. The lady who signed us up was more interested in me recommending people, which I did supposedly in return for free membership, which of course never materialised. We paid £30 a month for over 12 months but then decided to cancel. It was a combination of factors at the Wigan branch, we had lost interest as it was so busy my wife couldn't get in the classes and whenever I decided to go I couldn't actually park as it was full. We had only left it going because our son went with his friends after school, he then broke his elbow playing rugby and had to have reconstructive surgery so couldn't go to the gym.
I contacted them and they were sympathetic and told me I just needed to cancel my DD's and they would cancel our membership. I have now started receiving threatening letters from Harland's, I had no idea who they were. I have spoken to them and explained, they are completely disinterested and have now started sending debt collection letters, first one to our 17 year old son. This is obviously unenforceable given his age but their practices are a disgrace.
I will fight this nonsense but I will never go near this gym again, oh and the 27 people they put through as my recommendations will also be advised of this as well as my local Councillors and the Wigan press.

I have a membership at Wakefield and Leeds. I love them both!! The classes are good, for women the fitness studios are great as they have loads of equipment like kettlebells, barbells and medicine balls in big open spaces, I actually prefer to train in the fitness studio than the womens only and I was one of these people who really hated gyms before I joined Xercise4Less. The atmosphere is dead friendly so you don't feel intimidated.

Payed a personal trainer who worked in the gym 200 pounds, now they have left with out giving me any money back. Didn't even have chance to do 1 session with them. Spoke to the gym a number of times to claim my money back and they say they can not do anything about it as all personal trainers are self employed but wasn't told any of this when I signed up for it. Feel disgusted with a well known gym to treat people that way.

I was in a similar position, I had paid up front for a Personal Trainer and they left but I contacted Head Office they were very helpful and issued me with the PT's contact details. I emailed the PT politely and they offered a refund so I was happy with this. I still use Xercise4Less just will make sure if I get a PT in the future they agree to refund any up front payments should they leave.

Had a terrible experience at Leeds. I had booked a "free day pass" which as their website stated "Want to try Xercise4Less' fitness facilities FREE for the day? Simply fill out the form and a member from our team will then call you to arrange a FREE Day Pass." I arranged to meet a member of staff, who confirmed it by phone half an hour before. When I got to the gym, I was told she was too busy, and had sent a trainee who proceeded to show me around for less than 5 minutes, then took me to a computer obviously to try and sell me membership. I was told the free day pass was the showround, and I couldn't use the facilities unless I paid £5.00. The fee's he gave me were over what I had found out online, and when asked why I could join cheaper online for no joining fee, was told "that promotion ended two weeks ago".....I tried the same day and went through to the final stages. I will not be joining, and feel totally cheated. Waste of time.

I went to cancel my gym membership at the Bolton base gym because I could no longer afford it i was told it was £15 to cancel so i went back a week later when i had the money and when i went in the woman was really polite until she found out i was cancelling, i was then told it was actually £20 to cancel and i told him i was told a different price but he wasn't listening. While paying there was 2 other members of staff there who were laughing at a woman doing an exercise class there which i found extremely disgusting ! if anybody can help with an email i could send a complaint to i would be grateful because i now know a few people who have trouble through this branch of gym and when i got in touch with my friend who had also cancelled that day she was only charged 12.99 to cancel when she had the same membership as me because we went together.

I've been going on an off to the Leeds branch since Feb 2012 when it opened. Never had a problem, staff are friendly and full of energy. Surprised you said that staff were laughing at someone cause I always find the staff welcoming to anyone of all ability. I think you always see any gym with negativity when you cancel.
Written on: 30/07/2013
To be honest i don't think that comments true because I wasn't cancelling due to having negative thoughts about the gym I was cancelling because I couldn't afford it and I was looking to hopefully join after Christmas again. Every branch is different but when I wrote my thoughts on Facebook I've had a lot of people reply back saying they were treated in a negative way when cancelling and there having trouble with money issues through the Bolton branch.

Hi, I know this was quite a while ago however I am sorry to hear you have not been provided the services Xercise4Less always aim to achieve as The Peoples Gym. Did you manage to get in touch with anyone?
written by on 17/05/2013
I moved over to Xercise4Less from my previous gym about 6 months ago and the results which I have seen over that time have been awesome! Initially I would just train on my own, may be three/four times a week, and this did allow me to lose the weight I wanted. However I had a goal to begin gaining more strength and muscle mass to benefit my hobbies, but on my own didn't seem to make much of a gain. Therefore I had a chat with one of their Personal Training team about my goals, and I have to say, it was the best decision that I made! I then started training just twice a week with a Personal Trainer, for an intense hour before or after work, and the transformation has been awesome! I do so much more in those two hours with a Trainer than I did on my own, and the results have been such a confidence booster! Not only this, the gym is always clean, the equipment is great and the staff are always happy to help with a big smile on their face! Keep up the good work X4L!

i had my locker with a padlock on broken into while i was training. i reported it to reception and the girl on reception was very helpful, she emailed the manager who finishes work at 6 with what had happened and left my number for her to ring me. I am still waiting for that call. i phoned back 4 times through theday and still not available to talk to. The police went in and asked for a copy of the CCTV doing so they can get the surveilance team to look through it. This was 3 weeks ago and they have phoned many times asking if it was ready yet. Today the police phoned me saying the gym have said the CCTV footage as been wiped. So i phoned to speak to manager again and guess what still not available. IF YOU HAVE ANY SENSE DO NOT JOIN REALLY BAD COSTOMER SERVICE. PLUS THE SHOWERS ARE COLD
Written on: 01/11/2013
My locker too was broken into, ironic how the CCTV was deleted at the end of the month for the new month (half way through a month). Other BS's I've had include paying £40 to cancel my 12 year 'deal' which the woman explicitly said wasn't a contract and I could leave but yano... Most of the machines weren't working, the showers we disgusting, smelt like the type of place rats would infest. I was treated like a customer until I gave over my £34.99 for the first month and immediately after she started o text her friends whil I asked where do I go now? Where is the changing room and what's my pass code thing to get in. Like I said, I thought it was just her so thought non of It, and I created a 12 month account and after 2 months I realised it wasn't working, so the same woman that said its not a contract said it IS. And I had to pay £40 + £5 for every month remaining. Soon after this I realise that my bank had been going low, and I see that they had taken 3 lots of 35.99 out from my previous account and 3 lots of 9.99 pulse 25.99 as a deposit which she said that there wasn't Gonna be one for the current time.
Terrible, honestly, don't go. It's your loss if you do, and I wouldn't care if you read this and still think nothing of it. Most of
The reviews are set by there own staff which is why you see the occasional 5star.
All in all.. Massive waste. I don't mind losing the money in my wallet, but when they so bluntly cheat you out of it and when you try to stand your ground "garlands will come and take home possessions"... Anyway, you learn from your mistakes, so I hope you learn too.

I joined the hull gym, was great until the instructor for the spinning classes on a Tuesday and Thursday morning decided she wasn't Making enough cash with her personal training and left. They have now brought the instructor back but we now have to pay £2 extra for the spin classes so the instructor can make more cash! Totally wrong as this will not encourage the manager to search for a spin instructor to cover the class and include the class in your membership fee with out paying extra. I was doing the two spin classes twice a week so it would be an extra £16 per month on my membership. Not budget gym just a rip off I say. How many more instructors of the other classes are gonna spit thier dummies out and charge for classes when they don't get paid enough. Come on exercise for less get your act together and pay the instructors what they deserve to take the class and don't false advertise. One very unhappy gym bunny!

I £5 for this gym half of the time the equipment has not in service signs on it . Then the rest of the equipment does not have not inservice equipment signs on it. The changing rooms are dirty and in ill repair. The showers should be condemned there is mould growing on the ceilings i am sure that public health would be interested in this. I have mentioned this to the staff they are not bothered. Another friend of mine said that where they do aerobics there is holes in the floor. Also one of my friends has left and when she told the gym manager the reasons why. Half of the equipment was marked not in service since june 2012, the manager stated this is a budget gym. The equipment does have to work.

A fantastic community gym. The level of cleanliness and help from the staff is 1st class. For such a low membership fed it is everything that you need for keeping fit and healthy. The manager listens when people make suggestions on Facebook - a true gym for the people rather than the posers.

I Joined here at xmas as part of an offer, extremely good value, its a modern well euiped gym and seemingly plenty of polite friendly staff aroundd. Its very busy, not in itself an issue. However, maintenance looks to be very low on the priority list, many machines are out of order, some of them have notices on them informing the customer that the machines have been out of action since july 2012. Noe of the TV monitors fitted to the machines are working, out of the bank o4 4 big screens on the wall, only one is working, the other 3 are black. Many of the weights machines have the bars missing that you use to adjust the weights, meaning that you go to a machine thinking its free, but its useless, you cant use it as you cant adjust the weights, this leads to people taking the bars out of the machines when they move to another piece of equipment, very frustrating. The Gents showers are an experience in themselves, a cross between a turkish prison and quantanamo. the ceiling tiles are motlled and moldy and covered in black stains, not thhat you can see them with the single operational light thats working in there, several of the showers are missing heads, so you effectively have a hose pipe coming out of the wall, enforcing the turkish prison image. the drainage on the florr isnt quite right meaning theat flip flops are essential to ensure a less traumatic experience. im very dissapointed with the place, i dont expect bannatynes type luxuries only that the equipment provided is serviceable and clean and hygenic. i reported my concerns to reception staff who were very understanding and informed me that they were aware of the condition of the gents showers and that it was a "priority" for them to be sorted out, however from othere members it seems its an ongoing issue that has been there months without resolution. i dont normally write reviews , however i expressed my concerns to the companies offices and havent even had the courtesty of a response. Make sure if your considering membership here that you have a very good look around ( i didnt) and that your satisfied with what your getting, cheap isnt cheap if your not going to use it.

Xercise4Less in Leeds is definitely up there with the best gyms I've been to in terms of value for money. I've tried Nuffield Health and the likes and although it is nice that they have a sauna, jacuzzi and a steamroom I often used to think can a 3 minute experience in a hot, bubbly or steamy environment each time really justify forking out a excessive direct debit every month. So instead I got down to basics, where can I go that has a lot of weights, a lot of cardio equipment and has an enjoyable atmosphere. It was then when I came across Xercise4Less- at £14.99 a month this was definitely worth the purchase. It is 100% the biggest gym I've been in, a decent selection of weights, no hassle or waiting around for benches or machines machines and the amount of Cardio equipment is unreal. I was also particularly fond of the fitness studio which is like a Sports Hall me and my mates did our own bodypump and abs classes in there. In terms of atmosphere- it does seem warm and friendly all the time, I highly recommend this to anyone in Leeds, apparently according to their website they have ones in Wigan and Bolton too and if the Leeds is anything to go by I'd get involved. The link is www.xercise4less.co.uk I think. Hope this helps.
