“English Teaching in Vietnam”

Written on: 20/07/2012 by a_merricks (1 review written)

The programme information book we were emailed was very useful in terms of helping us understand what to expect and thus settled any nervousness about coming. The introductory email we were sent from the team in Vietnam prior to our arrival was also a very nice way of calming any apprehension we felt before we arrived. It was so helpful being collected from the airport by the host family. This also provided an opportunity to make introductions in the car before we actually arrived at the house… Read Full Review

“English Teaching Volunteering Course in Hanoi, Vietnam”

Written on: 18/07/2012 by Chris_EFC (1 review written)

I volunteered to travel to Hanoi, Vietnam for four weeks to teach English to school children. The course was reasonably priced and the project fees were broken down to allow me to see what % of the fee went where (food, accommodation etc.) The accommodation was great and we were provided with three meals a day, Vietnamese meals which was a bonus. We taught Monday to Friday and had the afternoons and weekends off for the duration of the course. We had contact with the company back in England who… Read Full Review

“Very good”

Written on: 16/07/2012

Very good company to book an experience through, although you could just approach their coordinator in country directly, which would be cheaper. They provide some good information about what to do before you visit the country, but this information could also be found out for free by talking the coordinator, so I didn't really require the amount of money I paid. However I probably wouldn't have found such a great experience if it wasn't for them, so it works both ways… Read Full Review

Interesting. How do you find out who the coordinator for is? And how do you contact them?

“Wonderful month in Sri Lanka”

Written on: 14/07/2012 by cocobella (2 reviews written)

From the moment my daughter and I found Plan My Gap Year on Google we were impressed with what the organisation had to offer. The key attraction at first was the relatively low cost compared to a lot of other gap year activities and the fact that most of the money goes to the local organisation rather than to the UK head office. As this was the first time my daughter was going to do anything like this we both had lots of questions. We got on the phone to PMGY and talked to a member of staff… Read Full Review

“Volunteering in Cambodia”

Written on: 12/07/2012 by EmmaFosher (1 review written)

Thank you so much for a fantastic experience, I could not have asked for a better first experience of volunteering and I'm very grateful for this. I met some amazing people and the weekend trips we're brilliant also. I particularly enjoyed the Elephant Trekking. Aside from this, the volunteering at VOD, although a slow start, which was expected, turned out to be very enjoyable and I felt that I had made a good contribution to the organisation. I enjoyed helping to edit reports and eventually… Read Full Review

“PMGY Cambodia - Orphanage Programme”

Written on: 11/07/2012 by MattM (1 review written)

The volunteering was a great experience, thanks for helping sort it all out. I was impressed with the orphanage, the owner is a genuinely nice and generous guy and it all seems pretty well run. The kids were all dressed in school uniform and the hall was set out as a classroom ready for us every day. It’s hard to see how much progress the kids made as we were there for such a short time but you could see some of the quieter ones coming out of their shells and getting more confident towards… Read Full Review

“PMGY Cambodia”

Written on: 05/07/2012

My trip was only two weeks but it was still really worthwhile. Before I left, any worries or just general questions I had were answered very promptly and helpfully by the staff at Plan My Gap Year. This made me feel a lot more confident about going. The pre-departure information they sent me was also very detailed and I used it a lot. The trip was also very good value for money and I really think that the money I paid was put to good use. I really enjoyed my placement. I think I would have got… Read Full Review

“PMGY Sri Lanka ”

Written on: 25/06/2012 by Emily12 (1 review written)

The experience I had with PMGY Sri Lanka was very positive. The company was incredibly helpful with sorting out details of my project before I left and assisting with any queries I had. Before I left I sent numerous emails asking questions and I could always expect a prompt response. As the company is relatively small, I felt this really had great benefits as the responses to questions were first hand experiences that they had had. When we first decided to volunteer with PMGY we were unsure as… Read Full Review

“Sri Lanka Volunteering”

Written on: 25/06/2012

I have just returned from the most amazing time volunteering in Sri Lanka. The staff at PMGY were incredibly helpful before I left in answering any last minute questions and sorting out my flights. The program is well structured and organised, giving you the opportunity to try different volunteering programs, rather than just one. I would strongly recommend PMGY for their volunteering programs as it is good value for money and a great experience… Read Full Review

“Cambodia”

Written on: 26/05/2012 by OliverTratt (1 review written)

The programme went really well, the kids were great and they learnt fast so trying to stay ahead in my lessons was a challenge but I managed! Last weekend was good the highlight had to be the village party at which we had a song dedivated to us forcing us to step on to the empty dance floor in front of the whole village! As if we didn’t stand out enough already! The Khmer Rouge trial was a great experience although drifting off to sleep was not allowed and it took considerable effort to stay… Read Full Review

“English Teaching in Cambodia”

Written on: 25/05/2012 by JamesSteel (1 review written)

It was a great experience working with the orphanage in Battambang. The host family were great and it seems like everyone involved tries very hard to care for the children. I really liked Phnom Penh. We were in Paddy’s bar for Paddy’s day with live band and all the 6 nations action which was awesome. Also been spending the evenings playing footy and running at the Olympic Stadium which is cool. The trip on the bike was really cool. The sunset in Kep is beautiful. The ride back from… Read Full Review

“Sril Lankan, 'bucket list' birthday!!”

Written on: 12/04/2012 by JulieBeach (1 review written)

I first thought about working in an orphanage several years ago. I’d travelled round India previously and seen the poverty of children with parents so could only imagine the suffering of those without. I decided to take the plunge to celebrate my 50th birthday and to cross something else off my 'bucket list'!! When I embarked on this ‘project’ I only thought I would be working with babies & toddlers in an orphanage. I read all the PMGY literature about the other projects but didn't think… Read Full Review

“"One month in Phnom Penh"”

Written on: 12/04/2012 by ChiaraCarmagnoli (1 review written)

Through Plan My Gap Year, I experienced one month volunteering in a cambodian NGO in Phnom Penh. This has been my first time outside Europe, but it took me only one day to settle in (apart from the hot!!). I specifically choose to volunteer in an NGO because of my studies, but there were also a lot of programs in schools and orphaneges as well. The local staff, organized in the V.A.C. Program (Volunteer Action for Cambodia, picked up me at the airport and followed me and the others volunteers… Read Full Review

“Orphanage Volunteering”

Written on: 06/04/2012

The experience was overall great and definitely worth doing. The kids at the orphanage were amazing, and it was so fun getting to know them! However, at times I felt the schedule was a bit too casual, to the extent where we sometimes felt we were not needed or being useful in any way. A bit more structure, and almost discipline would have made it feel more worthwhile… Read Full Review

“Volunteering in Nepal”

Written on: 27/03/2012 by jganthi (1 review written)

Volunteering in Nepal was a great experience. I was initially skeptical about booking with PlanMyGapYear as they were a young company and I found it hard to find any reviews about them online. However their prices were too appealing to turn down. I was impressed at the level of personal service I got with PMGY. They called me throughout the booking process to make sure that I understood everything. They also kept in touch with me during my placement. My placement was at a monastic school which… Read Full Review

Can you please tell me about PlanMyGapYear and the quality of their organization? Were they quick to respond to you: at home or in Sri Lanka? Did they take good care of you? Did you feel safe? Would you travel again with this organization?
