Agape did not well explain their role in our volunteer placement. Their materials made it seem that they would plan and oversee our entire volunteer experience. We began our trip with the understanding they had a program (or programs) in place and they themselves would put us in one. In reality, all they did was put us in touch with Ujamaa Hostel, who helped place us, though we wound up finding our eventual placement through other guests in the hostel. Agape played no role whatsoever after booking us at Ujamaa Hostel. If you are considering volunteering in Tanzania, I recommend contacting Ujamaa directly. You will meet some fascinating fellow volunteers who can help direct you to a worthy placement. Furthermore, I recommend volunteering at Neema Baby House. From all we saw and experienced, it had more structure and provided more benefit to babies in need than any other potential volunteer site we saw.

Completely agree with the lack of explanation of volunteer roles. I had had signed up for the HIV testing in Kenya, and did 6 days of testing in six and a half weeks! I had to fill my time arranging my own transportation (out of pocket) for teaching and helping a the IDP camp. I highly recommend finding a better organized organization, and signing up with an orphanage or school directly. The money for the program could be donated directly so you know where the money goes...
