“Lacanche service and quality ”

★★★★★

written by smcalvert on 04/01/2024

I recently had excellent service from a Lacanche engineer, who was highly knowledgeable and very personable, and he not only fixed the problem with my 700 wide Lacanche Cormatin, but gave me a great deal of information about my cooker and how to care for it. I was so pleased to have my oven working again, after several years of its being broken. I cannot recommend the 'premier service' more highly. In addition, the quality of the cooker itself is outstanding. It's now 18 years' old and still in excellent condition. A fantastic investment. The build quality is excellent and it will (with care), last many more years.

“A fantastic investment. ”

★★★★★

written by DanielKelso on 22/07/2023

We have owned our Lacanche Macon for 6 months now. We originally ordered it back in October 2021 and due to the nature of these ranges being handmade it was not ready until May 2022 so please keep the lead time in mind if you are thinking of purchasing one. We have the 2 fan oven model (plus grill), and the single grill / static oven. For hobs we went with the LPG gas burners. On the Macon you get 5 gas burners, ranging from small to large for your woks and bigger pots. Extremely pleased with our Lacanche cooker. It is the centre piece of our kitchen and anyone who comes to visit immediately comments on it. We also found the service team to be more than helpful, from our initial phone conversation through to the engineer, everyone was professional, extremely polite and knowledgable. When the service engineer arrived at our house he was polite and friendly, and left the area where he had been working spotlessly clean. What I also appreciated was the engineer took the time to explain to us how to best use the different features of the range and best look after it to protect our investment. Really delighted with our Lacanche and look forward to many more years of happy cooking.

I have had my Lacanche for 18 years and still love it. Had no problems at all - used daily and has been a great family cooker. Still looks beautiful after all these years.

“Excellent range and fantastic customer service! ”

★★★★★

written by hhulse on 01/03/2022

We are so pleased that we chose to spend a little more and purchase a Lacanche Macon Range cooker. The range is top quality and very efficient. We had an issue with getting the range around a corner into our kitchen but Lacanche (Fourneaux de France) were absolutely fantastic and sent out an engineer to strip down the oven and rebuild it in situ. The communication before, during and after installation was spot on. Would definitely recommend!

“Still as impressed and a pleasure to use as day one”

★★★★★

written by KarenJane2022 on 21/02/2022

I recently had my Lacanche Macon serviced by Fourneaux de France Ltd Poole Dorset. I have always enjoyed using this magnificent cooker and felt that it was time to have a service to ensure its continual reliability. The engineer called me prior to arrival (30mins before). They were very professional explaining everything they had replaced, reset and checked when finished. I was extremely impressed with the service, interaction with company prior to appointment and follow up questionnaire. They replaced the gas coupler, seals and thermostat to the electric oven, and adjusted the gas so that my gas burners are burning evenly and hotter! The functionality of the ovens and burners are like using a brand new oven (even greased the hinges) and I am so pleased with the results. It is so versatile having both options of gas and electric which we have found invaluable at times and now all working at their optimum. I would thoroughly recommend to anyone who has one of these beautiful range cookers to arrange a service to secure many years of pleasurable use.

“Lacanche Service”

★★★★★

written by MaconOwner on 18/02/2022

I have been the proud owner of a Lacanche Macon for 19 years. I recently decided to have a full service on the cooker and contacted my local Lacanche dealer. The engineers who attended were very professional, explaining everything that required attention. The end job is a completely serviced cooker with now operates in an even better way. I was delighted with the way they worked and they assured me that I had many years of use left on the cooker. The service was not cheap but bearing in mind the quality of the product, the outlay was worth it.

“Lacanche range service ”

★★★★★

written by Orlandoy1981 on 14/02/2022

When we moved into our house 4 years ago we inherited the Lacanche range. It took a bit of getting used to but now am delighted with it. Was having trouble with the cooker door and gas igniter so decided to have it serviced. The engineers were very efficient, turned up on time, carried out the work and left the kitchen clean and tidy. Personable young men a credit to their company. Although a service isn’t cheap it has given the range a new lease of life!

“Absolute workhorse of a cooker, and excellent service”

★★★★★

written by TootingR on 08/02/2022

We love our La Canche cooker. It's an absolute workhorse, and able to cope with the demands that any enthusiastic home cook can throw at it. The gas hobs are able to provide a wide range of heats for any purpose and the ovens cook multiple items beautifully. If we ever move house, she will be coming with us! Recently, after 7 years, our thermostat needed to be replaced, as these things are wanton to do. Arranging a visit with Lacanche was easy, with the advisor being warm, friendly and engaging, also sending a trouble shooting guide to let you try and solve the problem yourself and save you the call-out. Our engineer, was friendly and efficient in his work, and did a fantastic job, also replacing the rollers on our main oven door that were worn meaning the door was a bit loose. Communication from the team throughout the process was excellent and always professional and courteous. Very pleased with the level of service given and look forward to many more years use of my beautiful range cooker!

“Top product, Top Service”

★★★★★

written by ClaireJA on 18/01/2022

After our Redfrye range went kaput on Christmas Day a few years ago, we had to choose a new range. A very long and boring story ensues, but after debating an Aga, among others, we chose the Lacanche Macon. Ordered just before Covid-19 got in full swing we were firstly impressed with the updates we received about our new Macon from Lacanche. Dates were given for delivery and thankfully met. We’d purchased through a great dealer in Harrow, Range Cooker Showroom. They installed and sorted disposal of the old range. The Macon is lovely, the design is really smart and the overall range is super solid. Christmas lunch for 19’was a cinch. The multiple burners have great power and the central plate is great for warming etc. A year after installation we did have an issue with the on/off switch for the gas oven. No issue for Lacanche customer service. They arranged an engineer, as it was close to Christmas (yes there’s a common theme!) I was panicking it wouldn’t be fixed. No issue they got the engineer to call ahead to talk through the issue to make sure he had any necessary parts. He arrived as scheduled and quickly recognised and fixed the problem, also checking all other aspects were in order. A really professional, friendly and knowledgeable chap. Would recommend Lacanche product and service 100%

“Really Solid Range”

★★★★★

written by on 27/01/2021

I really thought about what range I would purchase when we replaced our kitchen. Did my research on the websites. I am so pleased that we purchased the Lacanche Macon. Ours has all electric ovens with the gas solid top. The ovens perform really well. As a keen baker I have been really impressed. My husband (who is the most impatient man alive) loves the power of the gas burners especially the large 5kW burner. The downside to the range. Well they are not cheap to buy. But they are definitely solid and robust.

“Amazing ”

★★★★★

written by on 10/11/2018

I purchased my Macon 3 months ago and I’m awestruck! Traditional simmer plate gas hob and 3 electric ovens (one fan). The burners are hot, much quicker than my AGA Masterchef. The simmer plate is incredible, I bring pans to the boil, slide across to the plate and leave them alone. Hob cooking is effortless, so much better than moving pans around over burners and six saucepans on that simmer plate is no problem. I purchased an oven thermometer before I disposed of the Masterchef so I could ‘calibrate’ my baking to the new Lacanche. The 3 ovens are absolutely accurate and I prefer electric ovens now to gas - after 35 years of cooking with gas that’s saying something. DO NOT hesitate purchasing a Lacanche, huge investment yes, but WOW, you get what you pay for. Solid build quality, accurate and responsive cooking and lets face it - a thing of beauty in the kitchen. I cannot believe some of the negative reviews I read before I purchased my Macon. I can only assume these people either can’t cook or expected all cookers to be the same? Allow yourself a couple of weeks to get to grips with this beast and you will want no other cooker!

“Love This Cooker”

★★★★★

written by Bentley178 on 24/08/2018

I just love this cooker. We spent ages looking for the right cooker for our new kitchen and finally settled for a bright orange Lacanche Macon. That was three years ago, and we have had no issues. We went for the dual fuel option with the solid top and electric ovens. The ovens are really quick with a good even temperature. The gas burners on the hob top are very powerful and do take a little time to get use to. But, once you have they are brilliant. Have recommended Lacanche to three of my friends.

“Terrible”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 24/11/2017

I bought this Lacanche dual fuel Macon range two years ago, I was thrilled at the prospect as I’d worked in a professional kitchen and this brand come recommended by ‘professionals’. I selected a dual fuel as I prefer gas overall but thought that one electric oven who’d be useful. Thank goodness I chose this option! The gas oven never ever reaches the correct temperature, it’s always lower than the Lacanche table of temperatures. It takes forever to heat up in the first place, by that I mean gas 6 uk standard (lacanche have their own ‘standards’ which means you have to set the dial to between 7 and 8) and after 30 minutes waiting I begin to lose the will to live, let along cook! In their literature they warn prospective purchasers that their oven cooks hot. Not true. We have had a succession of engineers changing the thermostat (no difference whatsoever) and still the oven does not get anywhere near a proper temperature. The gas rings work perfectly, and yes, they do cook hot but that doesn’t worry me. The electric oven works well. I would strongly advise any prospective purchaser to investigate other brands, this is a premium priced product that does not deliver. I would add that Lachanche’s Head of Service is not interested and brushes off complaints without offering a solution. If I could have it taken away and my money refunded I’d leap at the idea. Beware, this range cooker looks beautiful but is dangerous for your equilibrium!

“Brilliant, but nly for the serious cook. ”

★★★★★

written by LadyGrantham. on 08/05/2017

I owned a black 19 year old Cluny until a recent house move. I bought an ivory Macon for my new house, gas hob with traditional plate, 3 electric ovens with one being fan. They are solid and sturdy and capable of some serious heat. They are highly controllable in terms of temperature. They are things of beauty to look at too. To cook on they are a delight. Why do I say for the serious cook only? You need incredible ventilation / extraction because the ovens vent out some serious hot air and smoke, depending on what you cook. They don't have self clean oven liners so if you are someone who is prissy about how clean your cooker is this is not the cooker for you. The knobs get hottish when the ovens have been on a while. Don't put your pan stands in the dishwasher as it spoils the enamel in the long run. Remember, this is a semi-professional cooker. If you mainly cook ready meals, have an immaculate 'show' kitchen and cook the odd batch of cookies and the occasional cake and have lots of cash to spend buy something else, built in Miele perhaps. If you are a genuinely keen cook, the Lacanche is in a league of its own. The little electric oven and grill when in oven mode cooks from the bottom up only, perfect for pizza and tarts. The fan oven I am still getting used to as I didn't have a fan on my old Cluny. It certainly cooks more quickly. The gas rings are far more adjustable than a normal cooker, capable of going much hotter and conversely much lower than a normal cooker. As a result, they have thermo couples for safety and, like my old Cluny, you sometimes need to hold the button for a while before they stay lit. I was tempted by an induction hob but was concerned about reliability and repairs in the long run. (Read about all the disgruntled Falcon owners!) When I learnt my copper pans wouldn't work on induction that was my decision made. If you genuinely do a lot of cooking you'll love it. After previously owning a Cluny, when I moved into my new house and cooked on a little Zanussi cooker I was shocked at how flimsy it was. It is wonderful to have a proper cooker again now my Macon is installed.

“2/3 ovens is usable”

★★★☆☆

written by reviewingthings on 26/11/2016

So we fell for the glamour and glitz last year when doing our kitchen remodel and splashed out on the Macon. It is a solid range cooker and to be fair the presales was fairly slick. I needed the oven in time for xmas and with alot of cajoling and pushing from my end. I managed to get a delivery a few weeks before. Delivery was fairly slick. You filled in a questionaire about access to your street, access from your front door to the kitchen etc. No damage from delivery as far as I can tell. Went to try out the oven and we were impressed by the burners. They don't turn them on in the showrooms so you can't really tell, but it is definitely a much more powerful sound than your conventional gas hobs... and we have had gaggenau cookers at home. So then we tried out the ovens. Cooks a good roast and heats up ok. Not self cleaning and we haven't tried yet, so could be a ballache when the time comes. *Our main problem is that there is a vent hole cut into the right rear edge of the cooker which vents out exhaust gas from the convection oven. This is an issue because all the moist exhaust gas blows straight out into the side of our kitchen base units and covers them in steam and grease. Major Design fault there! So to clarify the exhaust vent on the range cooker top surface only works on the Left. Whereas the Right one is essentially just a decoration. Which is a shame as it is a good design if only they could connect the convection oven to this decorative vent on the top. I have tried to get in touch with lacanche uk. Who have been fairly useless with helping with the problem and have been 'liasing' with france. It has taken months with no real oucome apart from they think it is part of the design. I have lost the will and am now just not using the convection oven. They are sturdy and well designed ovens and I have no doubt it will last a lifetime but If you are getting a Lacanche. Do ensure you get one that vents upwards and not into your kitchen units which seems to be all except the range wth convection oven.

“Lacanche Macon is a great cooker”

★★★★★

written by Geodesic on 15/03/2014

We've had ours for over 11 years now and have been very pleased with it. We had taken out Domestic and General insurance on it as we figured things may start to go wrong. The only things we have recently noticed are a worn oven seal and a noisy fan when the oven is first put on, but D & G told us that they couldn't get the parts and that we had to replace the whole unit! First they offered us a silver Britannia model that is way inferior (our Macon is red) and when I told them you could still buy it they said we had to arrange the repair ourselves and claim it back from them. Excellent and friendly customer service from Lacanche - just be careful if you take D & G insurance that they don't end up replacing your pride and joy with a dud when the original still has plenty of life left in it! BTW the gas oven is designed to run hot, and we didn't really appreciate this before we bought, although this does become clear if you research on the net. Very useful if there's a power cut though (we have a couple of these a year in our village, a couple of miles from the M25, believe it or not)!

“Fiercely hot gas oven”

★★★☆☆

written by Lindabeazley on 10/04/2013

Biggest mistake was choosing a gas oven. It's very much for chefs/French cooks because even at the lowest setting you can't cook casseroles, fruit cakes, meringues etc. It is fiercely hot, especially near the heat source at the bottom, and consequently I don't generally cook more than roast potatoes in that oven. Despite all my research I wasn't warned about this. Have never managed to satisfactorily clean the gas burners which detracts from the appearance.

Please feel free to contact FdeF Ltd. We will be happy to discuss the problems you are having. Please mention this review when you phone

Ps to clean the brass burner hats soak them in a 50/50 solution of lemon juice and vinegar for a few hours then scrub with a nylon scrubbing pad and rinse with water.

Ladyrainton's Response to Lindabeazley's Review

Written on: 09/08/2013

As the gas oven runs on commercial, not domestic temperatures, it is designed to reach far higher temperatures; this is a feature not a fault. You are correct, you cannot cook a casserole or a meringue but it is about using the right oven for the right thing. The gas oven is far better than the electric for searing meat for example. The gas oven is also not mandatory, the cooker can be ordered with two electric ovens instead. As per my review of my 15 year old Cluny, I think people must do their research before buying Lacanche; they are not cookers for people who cook oven chips, but for serious cooks. I do agree however about the brass burners, mine were long since a shiny brass finish! (I think the new models no longer have the brass burners.)

“Doe it get any better?”

★★★★★

written by on 12/07/2012

We've owned a Lacanche Macon for almost 10 years and love to cook. Having a little time to see what is being reviewed about Lacanche I'm amazed at some of the negative comments on this site that the Cluny has received. Still, each to their own. There are comments on cleaning and the knobs getting hot. Cleaning first. The hob is easy to clean, just pour a little water out of the kettle onto the food spills or splatter when you have finished using the hob. When you come back to it, just sponge off the water and leave to air dry. Trivets and the bit the burner sits on go in the dishwasher and you keep the solid brass burner cap shiny by giving it a coat of HP sauce, leave it for 30 min and then wash off. The knobs get hot because the oven door is not closing properly (are the hinges located on the rollers correctly?) or the door seal has gone. Our old Lacanche doesn't have lights in the ovens but I believe the new models do. The linings are acid resistant enamel so can I suggest that after you have finished with the oven and it's been turned off and is cooling down, you place a bowl of water with some Amonia in it and let it steam a little whilst the oven cools. Oven temperatures are pretty good. We use the measurements on the control panel as a guide but if we want a super accurate temperature we use a clip-on oven thermometer. If you bake use the convection oven and place the rack in the middle. Don't forget that the metal housing round the fan at the back of the oven will radiate some extra heat so turn your pastry/cake halfway through the bake or just don't put it that far back in the oven. If you use a static oven the heat comes from the bottom so if you place the rack on the lowest level you end up with the base cooking quicker than the top. If you can, use the rack in the middle of the oven. Happy cooking!

I'm really pleased you like your oven but I'm not impressed with mine. I made a mistake and put my two star review in the "Cluny" camp.
Cleaning is not a problem and I lay foil in the bottom of the electric oven to catch most of anything that finds it way there.
But the knobs do heat up when the grill is in use and also to a large degree when the ovens are on due to the vent that runs along the complete width just below the row of nobs.
I'm no expert on cookers but after 8 years the fan oven element burned out and was extremely difficult to replace because there was no slack on the two heat resistant wires that fit onto the element. Hoping a local spares for ovens would fit, I found in comparison that the quality of the element was no better than one from a cheap and cheerful cooker, although the element was 5 times more expensive. I also needed to replaced the rubber seal around the door at the same time.
Now 2 years on from that the fan is playing up and will soon need to be replaced.
For the past 5 years one of the hob burners has been difficult to ignite, when I press the ignition button I can hear that it is sparking from underneath the hob base which probably means the insulation on the ignition wire to that particular burner has deteriorated. I would have thought the wiring should last in excess of 30 years.
still cooking.

Hi, seems you like to cook to. Regarding the knobs, if the oven seal is deteriorating then it's reasonable to think that oven heat can escape and warm up the knobs. It's a 2 minute job to replace a seal. Can I ask if you grill with the door open because on a Lacanche you always grill with the door closed. Never open. If you go onto Youtube and type in Lacanche there are some excellent tutorials that show you how to adjust different things including checking out the spark and adjusting it if necessary as it may have moved a little when the hobs been cleaned.
