“Car Rental”

Going to UK, heard about money maxim and decided to book car hire through them, found them very helpful and got a really good deal. Reason I gave one star is because they are of no use to you if you get to pick up your car out of office hours and you encounter a problem like we did. There is no one to help you and you are left at the mercy of the car hire company and we ended up paying too much for our 6 day car hire. It was gone 10pm, we needed to get to our hotel and had no alternative but to hand over the money nearly £300 as opposed to quote of £75 from money maxim plus we had also taken out stand alone car insurance. I will never hire a car in UK again, they are not nice people to deal with, they don't care but to get money from you. I emailed money maxim hoping they could help me as Easirent people car was hired from is an in house company they recommend but they said sorry, end of story.
A lesson learned.

Thank you for taking the time to review our service and we are pleased that you found us really helpful when making your booking.

As explained when you called the booking you made was on the basis that you had a credit card that could be used to preauthorise the required deposit with Easirent.

We can offer the alternative of being able to use a debit card for UK car hire bookings through our website, (although these do tend to be slightly more expensive), but at the time you booked you felt you would be able to use your credit card so did not go down that route.

Unfortunately when you arrived at the desk the credit card could not be used as the PIN number had been forgotten, so therefore the pre-authorisation could not be taken. As this means the car hire company are exposed if the car sustains damage - and without a pre-authorisation their only way around this is to offer you their inhouse excess insurance which is what they did, enabling you to hire the car for your break.

Whilst car hire firms do have a reputation for hard selling their insurance at the desk - and we will help users if that does occur - this was not the case here as the underlying issue was that you did not have a valid credit card to use.

We are really sorry that you found yourself in this situation on this occasion and am really sorry you have been put off car hire in the future, but we would be more than delighted to help again if you do change your mind.
