“Woeful Service - I just cannot believe the outcome!”

To cut a very long story short, I am a policy holder with Liverpool Victoria Insurance where I have elected to pay an extra premium for legal expenses cover. I had good reason to make a claim against this cover, and after consideration by one of their panel solicitors, they agreed that I had good prospects of success. “This service should be abolished”

Reiterated almost word for word the response letter from the Insurance company I complained about. The company insisted the case went to court, I agreed to then be told they had decided against going to court because the opponent had rang in tears stating she had no money to pay for the damage she caused to my wall. a lie - she has sold her house and holds 60% share of equity. “Biased at Best”

Do not waste your time using this service. To say they are biased is putting it mildly. They do not want to listen to your evidence and the person who dealt with my case would not even wait for my SAR to arrive from the company complained about. I stopped at the adjudicator as if this is how they work ,I would prefer to go to court. At least you will be able to put your side over without bias. “Don't go near them !”

Complaining about MCE insurance who are refusing to deal with my case after bike was stolen. Financial ombudsman were contacted on 22nd of may and they said MCE has 8 weeks to deal with my case starting from the 22nd of may. MCE didnt contact me till the 25th of July so it took them 9 weeks to get back. “In the pocket of the Financial Services Industry”

The ombudsman is there as the public's agent in cases of disputes with the financial services industry. I turned to them for help and they turned a simple request into a nightmare, please if you value your sanity stay well away from them and go and get advice for a lawyer. The Financial Ombudsman is a fraud on the public. The ombudsman is there as the public's agent in cases of disputes with the financial services industry. There was much information that I wanted about how the Ombudsman's office functioned. Most of what I asked I was refused answers upongl Therefore I thought I would make a Freedom of Infomation Act request', I was shocked to find that the Ombudsman is not covered by this Act.

The Ombudsman's is about as close to being The People's Champions as Dracula is to being a blood doner. Please be well advised

“Don't do it”

The FCA told us to go to the Financial Ombudsman when our mortgage company wouldn't let us borrow the same amount of money when trying to port our mortgage (despite earning more). We had so many delays arguing about it all that we ended up in rented accommodation and paying a £9k redemption penalty. We went to first the FOS and then the Ombusdman on appeal to try and get our redemption penalty back and all I can say is that they were worse than the mortgage company. “Worse customer services - Criminals protection”

I contacted them about 18 months ago with a complaint against my bank (Halifax). Halifax had given me a £5,000 overdraft on my current account, at the time I had a gambling addiction and 12 outstanding payday loans, 2 personal loans and credit card debt. My income was £1,400 monthly which was nowhere near enough to pay all these loans, and I had been unemployed for 4 of the previous 5 years. It is the job of the FOS to apply the rules created by the FCA. Application of regulations is, by definition, the starting point of a REGULATED MARKET. However, the financial adjudicator tells me "we don't apply the rules, I just do what I think. And the Ombudsman won't apply the rules either. For anything else you'd have to speak to the FCA". You are indeed absolutely correct, the conduct of some of these people is gathering a lot of concern from the legal profession and it looks to me that jail terms should be called for as the blatant abuses of established law and the Human Rights Act are obvious and appalling, yet the Omdusmanand staff remain totally impervious and unaccountable

The Ombudsman service is a wolf in sheep's clothing. Do not ask for their "help". Using them only increases the charges and fees we pay the banks and insurance companies. As they are funded by the banks and the companies that they say keep tabs on. The independent assessor that's meant to monitor the ombudsman service is no good either. I've now had 3 dealings with the Financial ombudsman. All three times have been a waste of time and effort. I have had solicitors and mortgage brokers advise me to get in touch with the FO when they have advised me that banks have not dealt fairly with my account or mortgage. All three times it seems that the ombudsman is working for the banks and not independently. I have recently contacted the FOS to complain about Hastings Direct that charged me extra for not being born in the U.K and apparently I'm a higher risk. The fact that Hastings are charging you more because of your birthplace is not an issue with which the FOS can get involved. This is because Hastings have simply exercised their commercial discretion.

You need to raise your concerns with the FCA.

I have contacted the FCA first and been told to contact FOS, looks like nobody wants to deal with such a case. I have decided to just cancel the direct debit and get rid of them!

You weren't 'confronted by an Ombudsman'. You were most likely approached by an Adjudicator and asked for more facts of the case.

I find it amusing that you also consider it reasonable to put statements like the FOS consider you unworthy if you are disabled or northern, without bothering to mention any of the facts of your case.

This is a worthless review in my opinion.
