The FCA told us to go to the Financial Ombudsman when our mortgage company wouldn't let us borrow the same amount of money when trying to port our mortgage (despite earning more). We had so many delays arguing about it all that we ended up in rented accommodation and paying a £9k redemption penalty. We went to first the FOS and then the Ombusdman on appeal to try and get our redemption penalty back and all I can say is that they were worse than the mortgage company. The mortgage company did apologise for the delays but the Ombudsman told us the delays were our fault because we had bounced around departments. Its a telephone bank so I don't even know how this is our fault ... No comment on our actual complaint - that the mortgage company wouldn't let us port our full mortgage for no reason. If we'd known they are paid by the mortgage company we wouldn't have gone to them and saved ourselves 6 months of stress. Just hoping they get abolished.
