The Top Gear Polar Special Is Probably The Best Ma

The Top Gear Polar Special is probably the best made, best written and most amusing Top Gear episode I've seen. For anyone who was on the moon during 2007, basically the world worst explorers went on a race to the Magnetic North Pole (not the true North Pole as was implied). Jeremy Clarkson and James May went in a modified Toyota Hilux truck, while Richard Hammond went by dog sled. The programme shows some of their training (typically, they do not concentrate). One brilliant quote from Sir Ranulph Feinnes is the deadpan "the biggest danger is ignorance because apparently you lot are ignorant...". One funny moment is when an ex-SAS soldier pushes an argumentative Clarkson (wearing just thermal underwear) into a near-frozen mountain lake to prove a point about hypothermia. He's not the only one who's wanted to do that...The programme then becomes a "personal video" by both parties, mostly filmed on small video cameras. Some antics look scripted and a bit too "polished", but when the presenters become angry with each other and arguments flare up, I suspect these were genuine.Though this is basically just a simple video travelogue, the Top Gear Polar Special is a funny documentary, and includes much of the usual Top Gear humour.
