Quality Djs & Great Music
The great thing about 6 music is that they don't feel they have a straight jacket in terms of the music they can play. One minute you'll be listening to chart music, then the Beatles, then some random tracks from a musical!
I used to be a avid Radio 1 fan, but as I've matured I've realised that life stretches beyond 10 tracks on repeat. Going back to Radio 1 now would be like undergoing one of the tortures they forced Iraqi detainees to face.
Aside from the music the 6 music DJs are also great. They are established professionals who don't feel that they have to break the mould to make their name - in fact many of them created the moulds. They can speak with an easy air that makes listening a relaxing - like listening to a good friend over a glass of wine (rather than a loud and annoying adolescent at the pub) and because they've been there and don't that they have great stories to tell.
I love 6 music - now I want the car sticker (oh, and BBC - put it on FM!)
Bbc 6 Music Is My Dream Radio Station. If I Got T
BBC 6 Music is my dream radio station. If I got to programme my own station, I probably wouldn't do too much differently. They play a fairly wide variety of music which will appeal mainly to fans of indie music, but there's also shows for metal fans, jazz/funk fans, and northern soul. I also love the fact that as the playlist is not too strictly adhered to (and appears to be pretty large) they play a wide variety of new material from artists you wouldn't hear elsewhere as well as lots of great tracks from way back when. Where else can you hear the new single from The Killers back to back with a classic from the Throwing Muses and then an old session from David Bowie?
The DJ's are a veritable fount of knowledge and rather than relying on gimmicks and lame comedy (the particularly awful Stuart Maconie excepted), they talk about music, they get a wide variety of guests, they tap into the old BBC archives and present a really great range of material throughout the day.
The only negative point is that if you don't have a digital radio, you can only get 6 Music via the internet.
