Looks Great, Plays Fair To Poor
The look and ergonomics of this horn are great but the playability and sound quality fall short. I had my horn set up by one of the best in the business but it never met my expectations in terms of playability and sound. I struggled to find the point where the instrument got out of my way and the music flowed. I was told the octave pip was the issue and addressed that. No improvement. The sound was pretty generic without too much character. I finally sold the horn since I have better alternatives at my disposal. Would not recommend to anyone unless you spend a considerable amount of time with the horn and thoroughly play test. Good marketing but fair to poor performance was my experience.

We Bought The Selmer Reference 36 Tenor, Had It Fo
We bought the Selmer Reference 36 Tenor, had it for a couple of days and took it back. Then the replacement was OK for a while but eventually we took it to a Sax repairer who showed us several things that were obviously not right from the start. Posts were re tapped and other things, after which it played OK. We sold it because it was not as good as our Yans or our favourite, Reference 54s, so was not getting played. As always with Selmer the quality of the instruments they ship out of the factory ranges from good to downright shabby, always play one for a long time before buying it, and look for a better case.
