Bought This Guitar For 400 Dollars. Pro
bought this guitar for 400 dollars.
Pros: good pickups, nice thick finish ,although if you look carefully, it's very far from the standards that TTM claims on his scattered and self-gratifying posts on the internet.
Cons: horrible bridge ,one of the worst I have seen, ugly neck pocket, there were buzzes everywhere I played on the fretboard, and above all,TTM offered very poor customer service, I gave honest customer feedback to the company and all I got back were self-gratifying comments about great they are and how wrong I was.
These guitars are highly hyped from members of the company itself.....if you browse on the internet, you'll see strange posts that claims that these guitars are better than Gibson ,that the owners of a TTM guitar have sold their Fenders, or such nonsense.
TTM clearly understand nothing about business. They would be better off by being more humble in representing their products, because from my experience, with their hype they projected expectations that I did not see becoming reality. And above all, they should respect reasonable customer feedback.
At some point ,they started to ignore my emails. I was never unpolite or unreasonable, but clearly TTM think they are far bigger than they really are!
Big mistake.
I found this review very helpful because...it pretty much mirrored my experience in purchasing a TTM guitar. I'm sorry the reviewer had such a bad experience but hopefully his and my review will prevent someone from making a purchase they will surely regret.
I had a very similar experience with TTM. I bought a Slayer model off Ebay for 400.00. The listing on Ebay hyped this guitar to the moon, implying that it would be a proffessional quality custom shop guitar rivaling an American made Fender. I checked the TTM website and basically the same claims where made that these where being custom made in Palm Desert CA. List price at the time on the website was around 1500.00 for the model I was purchasing. I figured the reason they would accept 400.00 is that they were a start up company and trying to get their name out. By the way if you check their website now, it is totally different. No more boastful claims about superior quality craftsmanship, just endorsements from has been and very obscure guitarists...
Anyway, about 4 weeks after accepting my offer on Ebay they shipped my guitar. The model I received was quite a bit different that the one I received. The model I got had two humbuckers, and the model I thought I was ordering had two singles and one bucker.
My first impression of the guitar was that the pick-ups sounded ok, but the neck felt cheap as can be. The finish on the neck was pretty much non esistant, and the set up was terrible. Fret buzzes everywhere. I raised the action and got rid of most of the buzzing. Still I was very unhappy with the feel of the neck, and there were bad intonation problems as in I would tune the guitar and it would not be in tune when I would fret certain notes or chords.
The finish had noticable flaws as well. I did a little research on the web and found out that they order parts from China (bodies, necks, switches, pots etc). Apparently they were assembling pre-made Chinese parts in CA and claiming that these were American made.
For the most part, my guitar was barely playable and I sold it off for 200.00 as quickly as I could. I have a Fender American Standard Strat, and a Japanese made Dean Soltera. I can tell you that the TTM I received was inferior in every way to both of these guitars, and was a far cry from the boastful claims in the Ebay ad. Comparing the TTM side by side with the Fender, clearly exhibited the cheapness of the TTM neck as well as the overall poor quality of the guitar.
Judging from feedback I've seen from other players who have bought TTM guitars and had similar experiences, I would say they are to be avoided at all costs.
Trust me TTM is probably the worst guitar that you can buy with your hard earned $. I bought TTM devastator this Jan. and tried to unload it on Ebay recently and guess who won the auction two weeks ago and didn't pay. TTMguitarUSA won my auction(don't ask me why and I don't intend to know) and he hasn't paid yet. I think these strangely positive reviews started to pop up on harmony-central and other guitar review sites in around 2008 and I was so dumb to give it a try. So I bought Devastator(on the Bay) and as soon as I got it I thought if cavemen were to make guitars in the caves of deserted mountains, Devastator would be that. In other words I was "devastated" at my foolish decision. So I wrote a negative but honest review(at the time there were only extremely good reviews) on Harmony-central and of course other very negative reviews followed. Other reviews were pretty brutal and more and more reviews followed but all of sudden, the whole review section got deleted. Now there is one new review that is very negative. If you are thinking of buying any of TTMs, please go buy something else!!! TTM devastator should only be used as firelog. I know I want to sell this guitar off but at the same time I don't want to cause pain and grief to other guitar player. TTM is that bad.
