Roland TD20K Electronic Drum Kit

I have played acoustic drums for 45 years, and was first introduced to an earlier set of Roland electronic drums with the rubber pads...I wasn't crazy about them, but they worked for a church environment. When our church stepped up to TD-20 V-Drums, it was a strong step in the right direction, with the ability to do rim shots, quench cymbals, and other "acoustic" capabilities. However, something was still missing. With 50 pre-programmed sets, it still had that "plinky" Roland electronic sound. It wasn't until a friend turned me on to a guy online who has sampled the great sets of all time....a total of 100 great sets that I was able to quickly download with a credit card. The trick was finding an old tech flash card (Roland wouldn't accept the new high capacity one) online. The great news, is once I uploaded the first 50 kit patch, the set came alive! I now love the V Drums, and continue to be amazed that Roland is so out of touch in terms of quality sound/sample patches.

Generally, I feel that Roland kits are overpriced. However, this is not likely to change, as you get what you pay for, and they hold their price very very well. Having said that, these kits are top of the range, and can do everything an acoustic kit can do - but you have the options of helping yourself if you need it, i.e. click beats, beat matching, etc. Excellent all round.
