The Art Of The Luthier Reaches Back Into History W

The art of the luthier reaches back into history well over a thousand years and continues to be critical in every phase of the creation of stringed musical instruments. Up until a relatively short time ago, in pre-manufacturing days, these instruments were still being made one at a time by one or a team of luthiers. Although still done today, the cost of single handmade guitars makes them cost-prohibitive for many, if not most. With the advent of machine tools and the manufacturing process, it became possible to deliver affordable instruments to the masses while still retaining a good quality of sound. I should note that many guitars are listed as handmade but that refers to the assembly of machine-finished parts. No loss here, just more efficiency. The Washburn EA20SDL Acoustic Electric guitar (Festival Series) is a prime example of this marriage of art and technology.
