The St. Dominic's Preview Album Has Long Been Indi
The St. Dominic's Preview album has long been indispensable to me, if only for "Listen to the Lion", which I consider the most miraculous song this most miraculous of performers has ver recorded. 11 minutes of semi-improvised wonder, with the growls of a beast thrown in for good measure. Almost equally brilliant are the other long song "Almost Independence Day" and the title track, a wonderful stroll through the music biz. And then there's "Jackie Wilson Said", a joyful celebration of Van Morrison's roots. The other songs are fine, although they do less for me than those mentioned. An inconsistent masterpiece of an album.
